We are a Post-16 Training Centre opening in September 2026 incorporating on site work experience to develop employability skills for young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our ethos is to use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible to create delicious home made, chargrilled burgers in a relaxed atmosphere alongside excellent customer service. We are passionate

about the local area and are proud members of both Dorset Food and Drink and Taste of The West. We are thrilled to have achieved a Gold Award two years running from Taste of The West and named as South West Cafe of the year in 2013. We are happy to welcome customers for coffees, teas, desserts and snacks as well as the full burger experience! We are licensed and serve a range of wines, local ales and ciders etc as well as soft drinks. We always have a number of meal deal special offers available alongside a full children's menu. Please do book in advance if possible for evenings and large parties as we do get busy.

👀 VISITING US AT SAW 👀

Thank you to all of you who came in and to see us at our Open Event last week. It was great to see so many people and discuss with you how we could work together at Skills Ability Weymouth.

We appreciate how difficult it can be at events like those - coming in to somewhere different and seeing lots of new people. To make things easier we are therefore offering timeslots every week where you can book in with Ross or myself to have an individual visit to us including a tour of our brand new facilities and discussions on what we do at SAW and whether it would suit you.

The rooms have been tidied, the floors have been mopped and the biscuits have been bought - that must mean that we’re all ready for our Open Evening tomorrow!

We’ll be open from 4pm with our team on hand to show you round the building, talk to you about our programs and work experience opportunities along with our plans for opening in September.

🌟 Exciting News and Open Day this Thursday🌟

We have been given the green light to open our new work focused training facility for young people with SEND in September and are holding an Open Day this week! If you're a young person with an EHCP, or a parent / carer exploring options for this coming September, we'd love to welcome you to our Open Day at Skills Ability Weymouth (SAW).

MAY UPDATE!

Just a quick update for you all. We continue to be busy at SAW with new electrics, fire boarding and fire doors going in alongside lots of decorating. If you’re passing us you’ll hear lots of banging, crashing and dance tunes from the site radio!

We are working hard behind the scenes getting everything ready for our start date. Our website is now live at www.skillsability.co.uk where you can find out a little more about our plans for the academic year and links to all of our Social Media platforms.

We have also designed the logo for our not-for-profit cafe and shop Sea Saw which you’ll start to see lots more of!

Thank you to all of you who have expressed an interest in working with us, we really appreciate it. We will let you know when we’re a bit further on and ready to be in a position to look at the roles we will have here at SAW.

We hope that you’re all keeping well and you’ve got some nice plans for your long weekend!

We’ve had a busy few weeks at Skills Ability and thought we’d update you as to how we’re getting along. As you can see the internal works are progressing brilliantly and we’re both really pleased with how our building is looking! We’ve had meetings with the Planning Control Team at Dorset Council who continue to monitor things and are happy with the progress so far.

We are also working with the Commissioning Team at Dorset Council with regards to Due Diligence which is progressing well.

We now have an official Community Interest Company with Sea Saw Education registered with Companies House for our cafe and shop so we’re ready go!

This month we are also working closely with two partners - Whitehead Ross Education and the Jon Egging Trust to deliver a number of workshops to both local businesses and local schools which we’re very much looking forward to.

🧱🖌️INTERNAL WORKS UPDATE 🖌️🧱

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at Skills Ability with the builders making their way down and Ross and I making our way up the building!

As you can see the team from wessexpropertyservicesuk are making brilliant progress to our planned plant nursery room on the second floor with the new windows already in (with fantastic views across Weymouth) and the ceiling going up this week.

Meanwhile Ross and I have been working hard getting the old bar area and kitchen ready with a new serving hatch and water bottle filling station set up as well as deep cleaning and painting!

As well as building works we have also met with the Building Control team about our plans and agreed plans moving forward. Ross has also been interviewed by Hollie from the Dorset Echo about our latest developments - you may have seen the article in the paper last week. I’ve also been busy studying and have passed my Supervising Mental Health First Aid and Understanding and Supporting Young People with Learning Disabilities qualifications. So it’s busy busy!
