The past week has been one of the most exciting milestones for me.

For the first time, I was in Edinburgh serving my Jollof Rice, meeting amazing people from all walks of life, and sharing a taste of Nigerian cuisine with both tourists and locals at the Edinburgh Folk & Food Festival

We also introduced a new vegetarian option to our menu, and it was wonderful to see so many people giving it a try.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall, supported us, shared kind words, and to the organisers for making it all possible. Your support means more than you know.

We're not done yet! We'll be back this Friday at Inverleith Park for the Foodies Festival serving up fresh Jollof Rice and all your favourites.

If you're coming along, be sure to stop by and say hello. We can't wait to see you there!

What a privilege to give back to the community

21/07/2026

Last Saturday, 18th July, I had the privilege of supporting the Nigerian Community in Edinburgh (NCIE) at their AfroScot Fusion Festival held at Portobello.

As part of my contribution, Oven and Stove proudly provided our signature Jollof Rice and Chicken to help feed the amazing volunteers who gave their time to make the day a success. I also spent time on the grill, serving alongside other volunteers and enjoying the wonderful atmosphere.

One of the highlights of the day was having officers from Police Scotland taste my Jollof Rice for the very first time. Seeing them enjoy a dish that represents so much of our Nigerian culture was incredibly rewarding.

It was another powerful reminder that food transcends backgrounds and creates opportunities for people to connect, learn, and appreciate different cultures. Through every meal I serve, my goal is not only to share authentic Nigerian cuisine but also to create meaningful cultural experiences that bring communities together.

I am grateful to NCIE for the opportunity to contribute and to everyone whose hard work made the event such a success. Community events like this demonstrate the positive impact that food entrepreneurs can have beyond business, supporting volunteers, celebrating diversity, and strengthening community bonds.

I look forward to continuing to use Oven and Stove as a platform to promote Nigerian cuisine, encourage cultural exchange, and contribute to initiatives that make a lasting difference.

A while back I made a cooler of jollof rice for a customer, and she loved it so much that she asked me for the recipe and the spice blend that gave it such an incredible flavour.

She's Nigerian and has probably been making jollof rice for over 30 years, so she's certainly no stranger to the game!

Without thinking twice, I happily shared my signature aromatic spice blend with her.

My daughter wasn't impressed. She said, "Mum, you've just given away the secret of your business!"

I smiled and told her, "The spice blend isn't the real secret. The real secret is the ratio… and me."

You see, there are countless Nigerian caterers out there, yet this customer chose me. That means there was something more than just the ingredients.

The truth is, recipes can be copied. Spice blends can be shared. But experience, judgement, consistency, passion, and the care you put into every meal cannot be duplicated.

Two people can use exactly the same ingredients and still produce completely different results.

People don't just buy food, they buy trust, they buy consistency, they buy the confidence that every bite will taste just as good as the last. And they remember how you made them feel.

What do you think is a caterer's real Unique Selling Proposition?

Is it the ingredients? The recipe? Or is the caterer themselves the secret ingredient?
