💚 Sometimes, a customer says something that reminds me exactly why Niche is what it is today.
This week a customer’s husband came into the cafe simply to thank us.
He told us that his wife had never experienced such a choice of gluten-free and dairy-free cakes and food anywhere before. They were both incredibly grateful that I have chosen to make my cakes in a kitchen that doesn’t use gluten, so they can enjoy them without the worry of gluten cross-contamination.
That meant so much to me and my team.
Because I completely understand how frightening cross-contamination can be.
My daughter has a severe nut allergy and after eating a meal at a local eatery that had been contaminated with nuts, she almost died.
That experience changed the way I think about allergies forever.
It is also the reasons Niche is a completely nut-free cafe.
It is also why I made the decision that my cakes would be made in a kitchen where gluten isn’t used. I wanted to create somewhere where people who live with allergies or dietary restrictions could walk through the door and actually feel that there was choice — rather than having to settle for the one cake or one option that happened to be available.
And I’m incredibly proud of the range I’ve built.

And I genuinely believe our gluten-free cakes taste every bit as good — if not better — than cakes containing gluten. ❤️
When I hear that someone has travelled a long way specifically to buy our cakes, or that someone has finally been able to sit in a cafe for lunch and choose from a whole menu rather than having to ask “Have you got anything I can eat?”, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.
And I have been absolutely blown away by the support from my local customers too.
Through a difficult transition, you have continued to walk through my doors, support Niche, recommend me to friends and family and come back again and again.
I don’t take any of that for granted.
Every single person who walks through the doors of Niche is important to me and my wonderful team.
Do I always get everything right?
No.
But I can promise you that I always try.
And I’m incredibly lucky to have such an amazing Niche team around me. They have supported me through a difficult period of change and have worked incredibly hard to keep the cafe going and give our customers the experience they deserve.
