Life update, cake updates, and a much-needed tea room breather! ☕🍰

Phew! If you’ve wondered why we’ve been a bit quiet on social media, life has been running at 100mph! 🚗💨

Last week was all about Cricket Tour! We felt like taxi drivers bombing all over Devon, hitting it in around baking, ferrying our youngest two boys back and forth while our eldest stayed on Tour. We even set a new family record: a 17.5-hour work day! Not to be recommended 🏏😴

Then came this week's nail-biting wait for GCSE results... it was an anxious wait but we finally have THE BEST news! Our middle boy Wilbur got the results he needed and is officially heading off to Cannington in September to study Forestry and Arboriculture! 🌲🪓 We are so, so proud (and currently breathing a massive sigh of relief—now we just have to figure out the daily commute!). 🎓✨

This Week at Double-Gate Farm:

Missed last week’s post because you guys kept us so busy! Huge thank you to everyone who dropped by—you’re absolute legends! 💖☕

This week is looking a bit spicy 🌶️ We’ve got a mountain of other tasks on our plate alongside running the tea room and hosting our wonderful guests! 🍽️✨

Here’s the game plan for this week’s opening hours (write this down, there will be a test later! 📝😜):

Thursday (Today): Open at 11:00 AM 🕚 ...but sneaking away early at 3:00 PM 🕒

Friday: Business as usual! 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM 🍰✨

Saturday: Morning = Buffet Madness! 🥪 We will be closed whilst we are prepping offsite catering until 1:00 PM, when we’ll open the doors until 4:30 PM 🕐

Sunday: Back to standard programming! 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM ☕🧁

If you can remember all of that, we’d love to see you this week! 😂

We’ve just spotted Double-Gate Farm B&B & Tea Rooms featured in the latest Somerset Life magazine! 📖🍰

We’re absolutely delighted to be included alongside so many wonderful places to visit across Somerset. If you happen to pick up a copy, do have a little flick through… we’re on page 87! 😊

Now, enough about magazines… today’s the first day of the Tea Room week! 🎉 The Cake Bar is full - we have a brand new cake ‘Rose & Lemon’ triple layer, the scones are baked, the clotted cream is chilled, and we are ready! ☕😂

🍰 This Week’s Cake Bar Menu has landed! 🍰

The Orange & Lemon Battenberg may make a fashionably late appearance when I have a little more space in the Cake Bar. So not a given… depends how busy we are!

Take a look at these beauties… our NGCI Jammy Dodgers! 🍓✨

Honestly, they were ‘interesting’ to make, but perseverance paid off! They surprisingly came out of the oven looking like proper biscuits rather than merging into one mega-cookie. (Hey, it’s happened before… live and learn, right? 😂).

💡 A Quick Note on Our Labels

Moving forward, our bakes made without gluten ingredients will be labelled as NGCI (Non-Gluten Containing Ingredients) instead of "Gluten-Free".

Here’s the Deal…

Why the change? Because we operate in an active, shared kitchen, despite best practice we cannot 100% guarantee less than 20 ppm gluten due to potential airborne cross-contamination.

What does this mean for you?

• If you avoid gluten or have an intolerance, these are fine to enjoy! 💛

• If you have Coeliac Disease, we want to be completely transparent so you can make the best decision for your health.

Now please don’t all get into big discussions below in the chat. People have very strong opinions on this and this is what we have decided works best for our business.

📣 Important Announcement from Double-Gate HQ: We’ve boxed it up.

Specifically, we boxed up our £12 Takeaway Cake Deal! 🍰

After many visits to wholesalers and hours scrolling online, we finally found a box where 4 cakes can live in harmony without merging into one giant mega-cake. (Note: Scones are excluded from this deal because they require their own VIP suite).

Honestly, with these new lidded boxes, we are dangerously close to looking like we know what we're doing.

Speaking of those VIP scones, our Takeaway Cream Teas also got a packaging upgrade! The new boxes have plenty of room for one, and are perfect for two.
