A North East studio Potter, combining my love of food with clay, the potters wheel and wood firing to produce beautiful, functional tableware for everyday use.

Had a great day yesterday - with all the damp weather it’s been a touch later than planned, but the first wood firing at Allendale went ahead yesterday. With some slight extra work of pre-drying and splitting wood, we successfully took the kiln from 0 to 1300 degrees over 11 hours.

The cold snap, snow and blue skies added to the day. Fingers crossed for results and a selection of work to exhibit at York Ceramics Fair on 7th & 8th March.

I was up at Allendale yesterday firing the wood kiln in preparation for the Pots at Christmas event at Broadwood Hall on Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th November.

The firing seemed to go well despite the damp conditions. I’ll be firing again alongside the event on the 29th - feel free to come along to visit the event and see our next firing first hand on Saturday 29th between 10-4. I’m looking forward to seeing the results from this firing.

Wow, well after great events at Potfest Scone Palace, and Compton Verney, I’ve had a busy time making work for one of Potfest’s flagship events this weekend at Hutton in the forest Penrith. I always try to avoid last minute firings but it’s with great relief my last two wood firing have given me the results I strive for - a mixture of warmth and the visual physical lasting marks of heat and fire, from the flames. I’m really looking forward to showing my work at this event this weekend.

My next local event will be Pots at Christmas at Broadwood Hall, Allendale on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December 10.30am-4pm. Alongside seven or eight other potters, I’ll be showing a selection of my work generated over the year, showcasing the successful firings. There will also be an opportunity to purchase a small number of pieces that didn’t quite make the cut, at a reduced price.

Anyone visiting on Saturday 30th will also be able to see the wood kiln being fired and enjoy a mulled wine and a mince pie.
