Voted Pub of the Year 2022 and Country Pub Of Year by CAMRA White Horse Branch since 2017 and listed in the Michelin Guide since 2019, and the Good Food Guide since 2023, the Greyhound Inn is an 18th century country pub in Letcombe Regis, a pretty village within the Vale of the White Horse, where our community and visitors are made very welcome. Our kitchen serves top quality freshly cooked food,

with an à la carte menu, specials board and an excellent value 2- or 3-course lunch offer on weekday lunchtimes. Our bar has four real ales, various lagers and ciders and and an imaginative wine list as well as a range of thoughtfully-chosen gins and cocktails. Children, well-behaved dogs and muddy boots are all welcome. Outside is a large sunny beer garden and lots of free parking. Upstairs we have 8 individual en-suite bedrooms, all featuring luxury handmade beds, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TV, tea and coffee facilities, with fresh milk and homemade biscuits, and indulgent, handmade Bramley toiletries. In the morning you can enjoy a full English breakfast, and we are very happy to make up packed lunches. Some rooms and dog-friendly and some have extra space for children. Letcombe Regis is the perfect base for exploring the Vale of White Horse, and visiting Oxford, the Cotswolds, the River Thames and the racehorse stables of Lambourn. The village is at the base of the Ridgeway Path in the North Wessex Downs, a haven for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Lunch tastes better outside.

A plate of something seasonal, a cold glass, the shade of the garden and a free afternoon ahead of you. This is the Greyhound at its most contented. Come for one course, stay for three. No one is counting.

After years of watching walkers set off up the Ridgeway from the village, we have a fair idea of what separates a glorious day on the Downs from a long limp home.

Proper worn-in boots. More water than seems reasonable. A spare layer. A paper map, because the signal up there is temperamental. Something sweet for mile ten. And plasters, the item everyone forgets. We keep a supply behind the bar for that very reason, along with route maps and honest advice about our local favourites.

Share this with your walking group before the next outing.

We love summer at The Greyhound Inn. The garden is pretty with climbing roses and the canopy and parasols provide much-needed shade.

With delicious English wines still available and some new dishes to try, as well as a return to the Sunday roasts you have loved, there are plenty of reasons to drop in.

If you’ve been meaning to plan a catch up, a proper date night, or a Sunday with the family, this is your nudge to come and enjoy with beautiful weather in our garden.

Everything is designed to give you a reason to get out, sit down and stay a while.

A quiet village, a thousand years of stories.

Letcombe Regis appears in the Domesday Book, held by King Edward the Confessor. Regis means exactly what you suspect. Above us sits an Iron Age hillfort older than the Romans, watercress once grew in the brook that named the village, and racehorses have trained on these gallops for generations.

Our favourite though is closer to home. It is said the Riot Act was read from our front door in the late 1800s, apparently the last time in England, after villagers burnt an effigy of the squire of Antwicks Manor.

A quieter house these days. Which of these did you know?

It’s English Wine Week from now until June 29th and to celebrate we’re raising a glass to Rowles Vineyard, a family farm in West Ilsley that’s been working this land since 1969.

Right now we have two of their wines on: the Bacchus and the Pinot Noir Rosé, and they are genuinely brilliant. Crisp, local, and made by people with actual muddy boots.

To celebrate, when you eat with us, choose a bottle of either with your meal and you’ll be entered into a draw to win a visit to the vineyard next spring, ready to taste one of the first bottles of their new sparkling wine.

Supporting local never tasted this good.

What a bank holiday to remember! 🥵 Thank you to everyone who came, ate, stayed, and brought friends. And thank you for reminding us why we do this. We can’t wait for the next one in August. Let’s hope we get just as lucky with the weather, dare we say it… a bit cooler.

Meanwhile - Sunday roast is on this weekend, the garden’s open all week, and the kitchen’s back to normal.

See you soon.
