Morning all,
As some of you will be aware one of our staff members has been in hospital for almost two weeks with a serious condition.
As a very small family business this does have repercussions as we just do not have extra staff to call on during times like this. Our team work relentlessly hard to cover holidays and sickness between us.
When we’re short staffed the distruption usually falls mostly on our delivery service. We are simply unable to leave one member of staff alone in the shop while we make sandwich deliveries. Against our better judgement we have tried it a couple of times and it just doesn’t work and isn’t safe.
Whilst most of our customers have been gracious, sympathetic and understanding we have to say we have been taken aback by the number of times we’ve been hung up on, sighed at and spoken to rudely when we’ve politely said we don’t have a delivery driver today.
We have been offering collections and we know this isn’t always ideal and in some cases it doesn’t work for you, that’s completely understandable. We honestly don’t want to turn any orders away and only do this when we have no other choice. Please bare in mind that a small business such as ours values every order and in this climate needs each and every one of them.
Our delivery service is more often than not, free, excellent value, fast and friendly. Occasionally we feel it has been taken for granted especially when at a time such as this some of the attitude we’ve received in return has been very disappointing.
We consider a lot of our customers to be friends and some of you have been visiting us for the whole 21 years we’ve been open. For this we are so lucky and grateful.
I suppose the point of this post is just to make people aware that a small business is slightly different and to us it IS personal, if we ask you to collect your order, please try to if you can - we can’t afford to lose orders if we’re going to stay serving you in the future.
We do expect our delivery service to continue be disrupted in the coming weeks but we ask that you please be patient and understanding, we’re doing our absolute best while our colleague and good friend is going through a very rough time so please bare that in mind.
Please continue to support small local businesses as we really do need you.
