Across two days, ten excellent local acts shall take to the stage, while the rest of us drink ale, eat heartily and dance with absolutely no concern for our heads the next day.

Gather round, fair village people, while we tell thee the history of the beer festival… 🍺

Before beer festivals were beer festivals, England had parish ales! These were great village gatherings where ale was brewed and sold to raise money for the church, help the poor and give everyone a very good excuse to tools up.

There was food. There was music. There was dancing. There was merriment. There was probably at least one village idiot who had far too much ale and disgraced himself in front of the entire parish.

Some things never change.

At The George, we like an atmosphere where people aren’t worried about being recorded while they’re dancing. A return to the good old days, where nobody cares what you look like as long as you’re having a good time.

So come as you are. Put your phone away. Have a pint. Make merry.

Two Devon farmers. One shared name. Two VERY different ideas about what the countryside should look like.

One has spent his life farming dairy cows. The other is a self-described maverick rewilder, filling the landscape with ponds, beavers and wild boar.

They do not agree.

Join us at The George for a screening of Derek vs Derek - a warm, eccentric and very funny documentary about farming, rewilding, rural life and what happens when your neighbour goes completely wild.

Hear ye, hear ye, the barrels are coming,
The fiddlers are fiddling, the drummers are drumming.
Twelve ales shall flow from near and afar,
And five mighty ciders await at the bar.

There’ll be pizzas aplenty and BBQ fare,
And Kicking Goat’s Land Rover shall also be there.
There’ll be singing and dancing and questionable cheer,
For The George’s great festival of cider and beer.

So summon thy friends and abandon thy chores,
Bring children, bring grandparents, bring dogs out in scores.
For two glorious days we shall eat, drink and play…
