Think I might start selling steak and chips
Many people still think fish is the “cheap option” and steak is the expensive luxury. The reality in 2026 is often the complete opposite. Premium cod loins in UK supermarkets are regularly selling for £30+ per kg with some reaching £35+ per kg. Meanwhile rump steak and so on can often be found for £12-£18 per kg. That’s right in many cases the fish on your plate costs more per kilo than the steak. So when you enjoy a freshly cooked portion of cod and chips you’re not eating a budget meal. You’re enjoying one of Britain’s favourite premium foods. Whether you’re team cod 🐟 or team steak 🥩 both have their place. Steak brings rich flavour and hearty satisfaction. Cod brings lean protein, delicate flavour and a tradition that’s been at the heart of British food for generations.
We just thought we’d share a little fact that surprises a lot of people:
Sometimes the fish costs more than the steak. 🤯
