The White Hart is an independent public house set in the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside within easy reach of many local tourist attractions such as Buxted Park and The Ashdown Forest. The recently refurbished restaurant and bar combines clean open plan design with some of the traditional features of an old English Public House, creating a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. Along with the c

lassic British pub bar & restaurant there is the conservatory restaurant, perfectly suited for both social and business gatherings. In the warmer months, the country garden is open for diners, drinkers and events. Here at The White Hart all the simple, classic dishes that you know and love are created using the best quality, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients and presented to you 'perfectly' all for a reasonable price. What more can you ask? Well... If you are in the mood for something a bit different, a little bit special… We take our steaks very seriously indeed. We Dry Age our beef in house to achieve a depth of flavour that is unsurpassed by any average steak. We have recently introduced a full Steakhouse Menu to complement our classic pub dishes. This menu includes well known favourites such as Sirloin, Fillet, Rump and our In-House 52 day Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak along with a few unsung heroes of the steak world like our Flat Iron Steak which is full of character and the Hanger Steak which has a flavour unlike any other cut that needs to be experienced to be believed. Meet the Team Monday!

We’re so pleased to introduce you to the newest member of our kitchen team, Martin!

Though he’s only been with us for a couple of months, it already feels like he’s been part of the White Hart family for years, settling in perfectly right from the start.

Martin first stepped into the world of hospitality working front of house at Smith & Western, just before Covid. Once we were all able to open our doors again, he decided to take on a new challenge and try his hand in the kitchen, eager to broaden his skills and learn every side of our wonderful industry.

He threw himself into the role, working his way through every station and learning all he could before progressing to Sous Chef.

When life took him to a new area, he joined the team at Royal Ashdown Golf Club as Chef de Partie, where he had the privilege of working alongside a talented Head Chef with experience in Michelin-recommended kitchens.

When we heard Martin was on the move, we jumped at the chance to welcome him home to the White Hart! We’re absolutely delighted to have his experience, passion and wonderful attitude with us.

We asked Martin a few questions to help you — and us here at the White Hart — get to know him a little better!

Now you see him, now you don’t! 👀
This week we’re shining the spotlight on Fynn, one of our few male front-of-house stars, who serves up both delicious drinks and tasty dishes with a smile!

Fynn’s been part of The White Hart family since he was just 15, starting out as a KP before stepping up to join us out front – and we’re so glad he did!

If he’s not here greeting you, you’ll find him busy at university studying Geological Engineering, with the option to take a Master’s in Geotechnical Science… we’ll leave all that rock science to him, thanks! 😂

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Brooke, or as we all fondly call her, Brooklyn!

Brooke brings 5 years of solid bar experience under her belt, starting out in her very first role at a local rugby club. When the chance came to welcome her to our team, we jumped at it! Since joining, we’ve been able to refine those finer details of the trade and build on her skills, including full cocktail training, to help her feel confident and at home behind our bar.

Fresh off finishing her A-Levels, Lettie is all in for her gap year — and right now, her focus is simple: work, work, work!
Before she sets off to travel the world next year and explore every corner of the globe, she’s here ready to bring energy, enthusiasm, and a great attitude to everything she does.
And here’s the best part — she’s already practicing the craft! She even brought her own coffee machine to perfect her barista skills and master the art of making the perfect cup. ☕✨

This week we’re shining the spotlight on our one and only Johnnie and what a character he is!! — the chef behind our brilliant Monday Evening Burger Night!

Johnnie joins our kitchen team every Monday to serve up our delicious Steaks, burgers and other dishes. We asked him a few questions for you to get to know him a bit better. We also asked Johnnie what first drew him into cooking, and he told us:
“I wanted to utilise my cooking skills with wild food and game…”

It’s Meet the Team Monday (yes… on a Tuesday)!

This week is dedicated to our lovely General Manager- Jade!

Jade is another long standing member of the hospitality industry, serving 14 years in her career so far! She began her journey at 18 years old learning her way around a bar… following the birth of her first born she landed a role in hotels, gaining experience in events, conference & banqueting! Jade gained her food knowledge working largely with Game in a beautiful rural site… soon enough she began her time here at TheWHB joining us as FoH Manager and 2.5 years ago earning her General Manager Title… and my goodness do we appreciate her!!
