To our wonderful customers,

In all the years we’ve been welcoming guests to The Heron Inn, we’ve never felt the need to write a post like this. Sadly, after several recent incidents, we feel it’s important to.

Firstly, we’d like to say thank you. We are incredibly grateful to be so busy this summer and for the continued support from our wonderful regulars, local community and the many new guests who choose to visit us. The vast majority of you are an absolute pleasure to look after.

However, our team are increasingly finding themselves on the receiving end of verbal abuse over things that are simply beyond their control.

Whether it’s being asked for ID, not being able to provide matches, explaining that our children’s menu is for under 16s only, being fully booked, a short wait during exceptionally busy periods, or any other policy or circumstance they do not control, there is never an excuse to be rude or abusive.

Our team are simply doing their jobs, following the law, and working incredibly hard to give everyone the best experience possible.

Just as you wouldn’t expect to shout at staff in a bank, a doctor’s surgery or a post office for following procedures, the same respect should be shown here.

Our staff are not just employees – they’re our family. Seeing one of our team leave work upset or in tears because of someone else’s behaviour is something we will never accept.

So, while we’d always rather resolve situations calmly and politely, if you are unable to treat our team with respect, you will be asked to leave and refused further service.

We will fiercely protect our team every single time. No amount of money in the till is worth sacrificing their wellbeing.

Thank you again to the overwhelming majority of our customers who make The Heron Inn such a lovely place to work and visit. Your kindness, patience and support never go unnoticed, and we look forward to welcoming you all throughout the summer and beyond

what a fantastic weekend at the UK’s biggest food & drink festival ON THE BEACH.

Even better still, it just so happens to be right here in our favourite place in the world! Cornwall.

We’ve had a fantastic time discussing local, sustainable seafood over the fire, and for our masterclass ‘Butcher & Batch’ alongside , & on Friday… More on this coming soon…

Sunday is here, but there is still lots of time to come and join us for your seafood fix. We’ll fire up the all you’ve gotta do is come and enjoy!

Moment of appreciation for the newest members of the dream team 🤍 poised and ready for the busy season ahead, and beyond…

Izzy – student nurse practitioner, farm girl at heart, and living proof that discipline beats experience. Zero hospitality background two weeks ago… now she’s basically running training sessions like she owns the place.

Evie – studying English language and law (so choose your words carefully), spends her free time sailing, and somehow still finds time to help us out after college. Overachiever energy, we love to see it.

Katie – future entrepreneur in the making, currently blessing us with her interior design eye and good taste. Here for a few years in hospitality before she goes off to build an empire (we’ll say we knew her first).
