I don't normally do political posts... but my blood is boiling. 😡
Sunday evening, I got a panicked call from my manager in CT. A group of travelers in the pub broke the house rules, went into staff-only areas, and completely intimidated my team. When told to leave, they just laughed.
Things got out of control quickly. Threats of violence, aggressive behavior, and the group riling each other up. My manager did exactly what she was supposed to do: she called 999.
But instead of getting immediate help, she faced a bizarre interrogation. After explaining the danger, the call handler asked her: "What's your ethnicity?" When she replied, "British," they followed up with: "Skin color?" Excuse me?! I’ve called 999 for venue disruptions before, and never have we been asked about skin color or ethnicity. What on earth does that have to do with an active emergency? They then asked for the skin color and ethnicity of the customers causing the trouble.
Why does this matter when my staff is actively being threatened?
I am absolutely livid. Because she said "White British," I honestly believe we were deprioritised. The police turned up 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES after the 999 call. Funny how back on April 24th, Bradford on Avon Police could instantly implement a "Section 35 Dispersal Order" to clamp down on kids and young people to "prevent harassment, alarm, distress, or crime." The Sergeant even claimed that maintaining safer public spaces is a "Force priority."
But when a group of grown-ass men actually enter staff-only areas and threaten a hospitality team with violence, those priorities disappear and we get a 90-minute wait. What an absolute embarrassment.
Since when is a 90-minute wait acceptable for an emergency at a licensed public house?
No "two-tier policing" in the UK? Are you serious? I am appalled and disgusted.
