Huge, HUGE news!!

Guy and Geetie Singh-Watson have just been named The Independent Climate 100 List. WTH, alongside some of the world’s leading environmentalists, campaigners, innovators and change-makers 💚

We could not be prouder!! 🙌🙌

Forty years of farming, four organic pubs, a qualification teaching the next generation of hospitality leaders how it’s done, and now this!! Not bad going.

“Between them, Guy and Geetie Singh-Watson have spent decades challenging the idea that sustainability and commercial success are incompatible. Guy founded Riverford , turning a single field of organic vegetables into one of Britain’s best-known veg box businesses, which has been employee-owned since 2018. This year he celebrates four decades of farming.
Geetie founded the UK’s first certified organic pub, the Duke of Cambridge in London, in 1998 and opened The Bull Inn in Totnes, Devon, in 2019. Most recently, together with the The Apricot Centre (a nearby biodynamic farm), the pub has launched a qualification in regenerative and sustainable hospitality which Guy lectures on and is held at Guy and Geetie’s Devonshire farm. It’s designed to equip the next generation of hospitality leaders with the knowledge to run businesses more responsibly. Their message is simple: hospitality has enormous power to influence what we eat, how we farm and, ultimately, the kind of food system we build.”

Bull Inn Sports Day/Staff Party 🎈

Post Summer we all needed a bit of sillyness. We’d had the date in the diary for months - it takes quite a bit of planning to close off all the rooms, rejig rotas, orgsnise food, booze etc plus closing on a Sunday, one of busiest days, from a trade point of view a decision in itself, but we needed it, and the team so deserved it. They worked their butts off this summer, in that relentless heat, so some titting about on a field followed by curry & beers was just the ticket. Needless to say more turned up for the curry & booze portion of the evening than the sports day bit 😆 bloody squares. Thanks everyone for coming (including some of our suppliers - supersweet ❤️)

Anyhooo, we’d always planned to use KEVICCS field, before the sign post by .winks why wouldn’t we, in our minds, and I’s bet in the minds of most of Totnes its a public space. There’s a bit of a campaign building around the future of the field, so if you’d like to know more follow Most important though is that you continue to use the field.

Tonight, the sky puts on a proper spectacle. From around 6pm, up to 95% of the sun disappears, the deepest partial eclipse Britain’s seen since 2015, and as close to total as we’ll get until 2081! It peaks a little after 7pm, low and golden in the western sky, so if you’ve got a sea view or an open horizon, that’s your spot.
Those of us not working tonight, will be up on Dartmoor. Check out Dartmoor Partner tips for where is best to view, and to check out their top tier walking routes for hidden gems on the moor.

Remember folks...you will need proper eye protection, this isn’t a “have a quick peek” situation, but it doesn’t need to come from a packet. We made ours from what was already lying around the pub: pinhole viewers from cardboard boxes and a colander.
Same science, zero landfill, and mildly more fun to explain to a confused passer-by than a pair of cardboard glasses.

We’re fully into tomato season now, and honestly, we’re spoiled for choice. The heritage varieties coming out of the poly tunnels at right now are something else, walking through them feels like wandering into a forest of tomatoes, the air warm and fragrant.

The Albatross apartment

We say this every year… but the Albatross apartment is definitely getting more and more popular.. and it’s easy to see why!
Just opposite the pub, is a gorgeous four bedroom bolthole for you and the whole gang. Our self-catering apartment has two bathrooms, and loads of living space for everyone to be together, whether you’re hanging out in the lounge or spilling out on to terrace from the kitchen.
The apartment has all the rustic, reclaimed charm of the Bull, the same sumptuously comfy mattresses from Naturalmat , same organic linen from Greenfibres , same vintage vibe and antique furniture.

For all of you super organised peeps out there, our calendar for summer 2027 is now open! If this year is anything to go by, you’ll want to get booking before the weekends and summer hols get snaffled up again.

For those of you yearning for cooler temperatures that come with the change of the seasons, autumn is the perfect time to visit Totnes.
South Devon has so much to offer, from the great outdoors, to gorgeous market towns, like Totnes. The Albatross is the perfect place to cosy up after a coastal work or adventure on the moor, and the ideal base for meandering round the market in Totnes and exploring all of the wonderful independent shops our town has to offer.

C’mon England!!!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ⚽️

We’re backing our boys tonight, supporting the nation’s team and celebrating the incredible diversity of our country at the same time, something to be properly proud of tonight!

20 out of the 26 lads in our squad have foreign heritage, as well as English. How bloody marvellous is that!
Roots in Nigeria, Jamaica, Ireland, St Kitts, Ghana, Portugal, you name it.
This isn’t a distraction from the shirt, it IS the shirt. Different backgrounds, with the same badge on the chest. And honestly, it’s what makes cheering this lot on feel like cheering on the whole country 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Beetroot, crème fraiche, radish, herbs

This one’s a little special.
Not only is it deliciously fresh and cooling (perfect for the super hot days we’ve been having), it’s a dish put together using incredible ingredients that are grown and produced hyper locally, just a stones throw from the pub.

Beetroot & herbs from and crème fraiche from the cows Riverford Organic Dairy both literally just 7 miles from the pub.
