Shattered after a storm-tossed Valentine's day. Couple drove up from Bideford in spite of the weather and so I opened for a local Devon Steak meal: 'amuse bouche' of homemade rum truffles, mackerel pate and melba toast, prime Sirloin flash grilled with mushroom, tomato, hand cut chips; fudge brownies with Chantilly and Devon clotted cream. Thanks to friends Kieran Clutsom and Maisie for coming out on such a fiendish night, too.

Couple setbacks: Mrs. Cobley laid up for a while - had to make up a Steak and Ale Pie myself. And probably been told a dozen times this week by customers that they would certainly recommend the Bistro on Trip Advisor, but no-one did. Good news, the Pies are back and we had perhaps our first profitable week - in January (go figure).

Bangers and Mash on the menu today: black pepper-spiked Cumberland Sausages on a mound of creamy mashed potatoes, served with buttered cabbage and a lush Onion Gravy. £3.95.

Exciting new development - sealed a deal with a local chippy's partner who make fabulous Steak, Mushroom and Guinness Ale Pies. This is the first food I've bought in and I am almost (professionally) jealous of the comments we're getting - 'Best Pie I've ever tasted', 'Really really good'. Working on an American Chicken Pot Pie so I can claim some credit against this hurt to my vanity. Rob :) (BTW the Pie with handcut chips and Peas will set you back a mere 3.95.) Mrs Cobley's handmade Pies - you heard it here first.

Wow ... fast response: should have done this sooner! And I'm not concerned that all but one of you are never going to visit my restaurant.. perhaps that's why you 'like' it. But thanks, anyway :)
