❗️ please share - this might just save a life❗️

Although it’s very tempting when you pet is too hot and possibly suffering from heat stroke, to place a damp or wet towel over them thinking it will help cool them down - it actually could have the opposite effect.

When an animal is overheating it is important NOT to place wet towels over the animal as these can warm up and act as a barrier, trapping the heat in making the animal even hotter.

Veterinary treatment should be sought immediately if you suspect heatstroke in any animals but ideally they should be cooled down first before transportation:

⚠️Wetting the paws and the ears with cool water

⚠️ Place a wet or damp towel down UNDER the animal so they can lay on top.

⚠️ Offer small amounts of cold water to drink.

⚠️ Placing ice packs wrapped in a towel in the armpits and the groin area (large blood vessels run along these areas so it helps to cool the blood more effectively but the towel prevents cold burns)

⚠️Using a fan or air conditioning.

But please NO wet towels OVER them.
