Postcard 1: The Boathouse. 1940s / 50s
Postcard 2: 1920s / 1930s.
Lots to see here - The Boathouse, Tabard House, Tulip Cottage (shutters still on the windows), Boat Shelter Cottage / Garages, and the arch.
The Tearoom building has yet to be built.
Then thereβs the stripy building, top right behind Tulip Cottage. Possibly one of the bungalows between what is now the beach car park & the beach - the long lenses makes it look closer to Tulip Cottage than it actually is.
Postcard 3: So many trees along the right hand side of The Meare, plus, no houses.
This postcard must have been taken before much of Lakeside Avenue was developed, but long enough after the Meare was created for the newly planted trees to mature. 1940s maybe.
Postcard 4: Boats!
(Including my absolute favourite boat - Vega - the fastest, most streamlined rowing boat on The Meare (imo π).
Incredible that the boats in this image not only still exist but are available for rent too - a sign of craftsmanship and care.
