Thinking of our young people who are missing their dads today. Also to the dads who are solo parenting and the mums who are being dad too!

We know that days like Father’s Day can be difficult for so many people, but know that we are here for you.

At Maple Park Café, we believe in supporting our community through both good times and difficult ones.

We are proud to support the Widows’ Fight campaign, which is raising awareness of the financial hardship faced by widowed families, especially those with dependent children.

This is an issue that affects many families across the UK, and we would be really grateful if you could take a moment to sign and share this petition:

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/752501

In 2017, the Government changed the Bereavement Support Payment system. Support for bereaved families was reduced from up to 18 years to just 18 months, and payments have not been increased since.

Bereavement Support Payment is funded through National Insurance contributions — money that people have worked hard and paid in throughout their lives.

If the petition reaches 100,000 signatures, Parliament must consider it for debate.

Please help by:
✅ Signing
✅ Sharing
✅ Encouraging others to do the same

Together, we can help make sure widowed families are heard and supported.

Thank you ❤️

You can find out more by following on Instagram or Widows Fight UK on Facebook.

Reform Bereavement Support Payment so families with and without dependent children receive help beyond 18 months, with annual uprating to reflect cost of living.

Our café is not just an enterprise or a commercial project.

In our latest blog, I’ve shared a few thoughts on why cafés can become “second living rooms” for their communities - and why designers, planners and builders should think seriously about including spaces like this from the very beginning.

How peaceful grounds, good coffee and familiar faces can help create new family traditions. One of my favourite things about Maple Park Café is not actually inside the café at all. 📚🐑 A Perfect Addition to the Maple Park Book Swap! 🐑📚

A huge thank you to one of our lovely customers who has donated this classic to our growing Book Swap shelf – All Things Wise and Wonderful by James Herriot.

Could there be a more fitting book for North Yorkshire? Set amongst the farms, villages and rolling countryside we know and love, Herriot’s stories have been delighting readers for generations and are a wonderful celebration of life in God’s Own Country.

Our Book Swap is already starting to take shape, and we love seeing books arrive that have such a strong local connection. Whether you’re a lifelong Herriot fan or discovering his stories for the first time, this one is ready and waiting on the shelf.

📖 Take a book
📖 Leave a book
📖 Share a favourite story

We’re still welcoming donations, so if you have any books looking for a new home, feel free to drop them into the café.

What’s your favourite James Herriot book or memory? Let us know in the comments! 👇
