It’s cauliflower day! Yesterday I roasted some chicken wings and made stock and today cooked the cauliflower in it. I puréed it and it’s vacuum packed and frozen ready to be finished on site. I also did about a dozen other things including use up three eggs for scones that I freeze raw and bake on the morning (are you seeing a theme here?). Come on chicken ladies, post-heatwave fatigue has surely passed by now?

This time next week I’ll be at my accommodation for a three day job starting in the morning. And that means a lot of planning and prep starts now (the 21 four-pint bottles of milk was certainly a new one for the Sainsbury’s delivery driver). Today’s main event was beetroot 🫜 I smoked and peeled and diced and vacuum packed over 3kg (finished weight) of this glorious vegetable which is now taking a little snooze in the freezer with 50 part-baked sourdough rolls. Joan was thrilled with it being beetroot day (Dawn was rather meh). I wonder what they’ll make of tomorrow’s vegetable?

I couldn’t put my finger on what it was exactly that made me so uncomfortable but I realised it didn’t matter, if I don’t feel like I’ll be a good fit for someone whether that’s a Pygmy Goat Picnic or a catering job then I don’t take the booking. This is the first time this has happened to me since I started Pyromaniac Chef so perhaps I’ve just been really fortunate that if people suspect I’m not doing everything in my power to keep everyone safe and happy then they are keeping those thoughts to themselves.

A return to cooler weather can only mean one thing - break out the power tools and tackle the repairs I couldn’t face at 30°C. New injuries are both to the feet; Dawn headbutted me while I was stood on the ladder adding compost to the honeysuckle and Fleur clawed my foot for getting too close to her while she napped (despite her choosing to nap where I was working). Luckily this weekend’s catering job is for vegan cake as the chickens have decided it’s been too hot to lay!

Fleur may be small but she lives her life to the fullest 🥰

A weekend of trying to make vegetarian marshmallows, getting lunch at Jessie Smith (because even though I was literally spending my weekend cooking, I love to eat out and wanted a bank holiday treat), my first event with squirrel outdoor on Saturday evening, time in the garden watching Fleur be odd and Lola enjoying the rain yesterday then into a Pygmy Goat Picnic today, some time with Joan who enjoys a pamper and finally a cupcake made with my first harvest jam. I’ve spent most of it outside, often in the rain and couldn’t be happier!

I have a new kitchen at Shooting School UK and I love it! Toby cured the new barbecues, filmed and took snacks to the trappers at our first event. Making tiramisu on site without electricity was a fun experiment but I have a fab new cooler and a million and one idea. Roll on summer 2026 🥂
