We will be open as normal from Friday. Thank you to everyone who supported our decision to look after our staff in this heat.

23/06/2026

We are closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Due to extreme heat and the temperature set to rise tomorrow and Thursday we have taken the decision to close all 3 cafes for two days.

Kitchens are hot places at the best of times, coupled with 34°C and rising then you can imagine how hot the kitchens will be.

Our staff have been melting in the heat the last couple of days and their welfare is paramount which lead to the decision to close until Friday.

We will be back open as normal on Friday as the temperature is looking to start dipping.

22/06/2026

As much as I love the hot weather I am mindful that our staff are working in extremely hot conditions during this mad heatwave.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will close at 3pm. We will stop serving food at 2pm, cakes and drinks will be available until 2.45pm.

Thanks Donna & David

Well we have some sad news.

Rukayyah one of our supervisors will be leaving on Friday to pursue a career in the NHS. David and I have know since February that Rukayyah would be off to join the NHS and as much as we don't want her to leave, we know she is going to be missed by the Team here at Bowring.

Rukayyah has been a great asset to the Team, she started with us just over 3 years ago as a café assistant, quickly rising to shift leader and finally supervisor. This young lady is only 20 years old and she has single handedly ran a shift with 8 staff, cooking, overseeing everything and still smiling at the end. She does this week in week out.

Recently Rukayyah has gone above and beyond due to staff shortages /sickness and really helped out working 6 days per week.

The NHS are very lucky to have Rukayyah joining them, she is one in a million.

I still remember the day I interviewed this young lady like it was yesterday.

Rukayyah, David and I wish you all the best, you know we think the world of you and I will try not to have "runny eyes" on Friday.

You will go far in life and believe in yourself like I believe in you.

Don't be a stranger. Feel free to call in on your late night walks with Emilia and Sian.

Rukayyah is Zachary's favourite. He refers to Rukayyah as his Cafe Girlfriend.

Lots of love

Donna

It is going to be very hot over the next week, please don't walk your dogs when it is very hot. Take them out early morning and late evening when it is cooler.

The decorating is nearly finished, tables and chairs arrived. The chairs arrived after 5pm so I had the nice job of helping off load them.

I am loving the colours.

Cabin will be open as normal tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience Today. However we are open 360 days a year and had to pick a day to get everything done. Yes a few people grumbled, however logistically we had deliveries from Ipswich and beyond, plus tying up our painter , not literally isn't easy.

Some business close while they do work, we just closed the cabin and still had tables outside. Thank you to everyone who understands how hard it is to be open and try and get everything else done at the same time.

Yesterday was World IBD day, this is completely different to IBS, please don't confuse the two.

People suffer, struggle and try and live a normal life, yet this can be life changing.

It changes the life of the person who is suffering and it affects the whole family. Some people require their bowel to be removed and end up with a stoma. They can struggle to eat and suffer long after the operation.

They can hit a real low and end up skin and bones as they are unable to eat and can't keep food down.

When they hit 44kg and you worry yourself sick as you can't do anything as magic wands are out of stock. You just pray that they get better and put on weight and manage to eat.

You know who you are. I love you and I am so proud of how you have handled this.

People can be embarrassed by their condition, please don't be. Life has thrown you a curve ball, don't let it define you.

If you are suffering and have symptoms not necessarily blood go to your GP. Don't be palmed off with it's just a bug, it's gastroenteritis. Too many times Doctors are missing the signs, not taking the time to see the bigger picture and people are not being treated.

I never really knew anything about IBD until it hit close to home. Now I read, watch and research as much as possible.

To everyone suffering. Be strong. Be positive and don't let it define you.
