💛 A little reminder to please be kind to our young staff 💛
It’s a very different world from when us older lot were earning our first few quid! We could get a paper round, sweep the floors at the local hairdressers or barbers, wash pots or help out in the corner shop. Those little jobs gave us our first taste of responsibility, confidence and earning our own money.
Today, only around 1 in 5 16–17-year-olds are in employment.
Our younger team members range from 15 to 19, and we're incredibly proud to give them somewhere to gain that all-important experience.
Recently, we've had a very small number of customers be disrespectful towards our younger staff, followed by negative reviews criticising the customer service and referring to “kids being in charge.”
We'd just like to offer a different perspective…
They aren't “kids being put in charge”.
They are young people being given a chance. ❤️
They're learning how to communicate with the public, work under pressure, take responsibility and build confidence for their future.
Will they occasionally make mistakes? Of course! They're learning — just like every single one of us did in our first jobs.
If something isn't right, please speak to us. We're always happy to listen and constructive feedback is an important part of helping our young staff improve.
But being spoken down to, belittled or embarrassed isn't constructive — and we will always stand behind our team when that happens.
Because how can we expect young people to have experience if nobody is willing to give them the opportunity to gain it?
We're incredibly proud to be a small business where youngsters can work, learn, grow and build their confidence for the future.
So please be patient, please encourage them and, above all, please be kind. ❤️
And to the overwhelming majority of our wonderful customers who already do exactly that — thank you. 🥰
