Six months as a full-time baker 🤍 A little look at what I’ve learnt and the life behind EatsNtreats…
Going full-time wasn’t something I’d planned for, and I was figuring things out as I went. I made mistakes with orders, including a wedding cake, and even missed orders while feeling burnt out. Those moments were hard, but I’ve had to own them, learn from them and make changes so I can keep moving forward.
Some weeks have been extremely busy; others have had zero orders. Coming from a corporate background with a regular salary, not knowing what I’ll earn each month has been one of the hardest adjustments. I’m learning that business has its ups and downs, my busy week might be someone else’s quiet one, and we’re all finding our way.
A cake involves so much more than the decorating you see. There’s the planning, ingredients, baking, fillings, messages, packing and cleaning afterwards! I’m learning to account for all of that, price my work fairly and be realistic about what I can take on.
Teaching and hosting workshops are things I’ve always wanted to do, so being able to make them happen now feels really rewarding. I love a challenge, and seeing someone feel proud of what they’ve created makes all the preparation worthwhile.
Everything I do is for my children. They’re the reason I keep trying, even on the difficult days. Balancing motherhood and running a business isn’t always easy, but I hope they grow up seeing that you can make mistakes, learn and keep going.
The support I’ve received, both personally and professionally, has helped me more than you know. Every order, recommendation, kind message and person who’s checked in on me has made a difference.
I wouldn’t be where I am without you all. Here’s to continuing to learn, grow and hopefully thrive with a few wobbles along the way! 🤍
