Located in the heart of the small village of Kilchrenan, the Inn will serve good, honest, British food for lunch and dinner, alongside a carefully selected range of beers, wines and spirits. Once an 18th century trading post, the Inn has been transformed into a contemporary gastropub and is a true gem hidden amongst the munros and lochs of rural Argyll & Bute. The Kilchrenan Inn is a 15-minute dri

ve from Taynuilt and a short walk from the shores of Loch Awe, one of Scotland's largest lochs. It is the ideal pit-stop for those exploring the West of Scotland and only a short drive from Oban, the Gateway to the Isles.

🥃 **Supplier Spotlight: Off Grid Distillery – Blackhouse Rum**🥃

We're delighted to welcome Blackhouse Rum from Off Grid Distillery to The Kilchrenan Inn.

Nestled in the beautiful landscape of Moidart on Scotland's west coast, Off Grid Distillery is a small, independent distillery doing things a little differently. Powered entirely by renewable energy, they're committed to creating exceptional spirits while working in harmony with the environment around them.

What really caught our attention is their approach to rum. Unlike many producers, they don't import ready-made rum to bottle or blend. Instead, every drop of Blackhouse Rum is made from scratch in Moidart, using raw organic cane pressing and rich molasses before being fermented, distilled and crafted entirely by their own team. It's a true grain-to-glass spirit with real provenance and character.

The name ”Blackhouse“ pays tribute to the traditional stone dwellings that once dotted the Highlands and Islands, celebrating the heritage of the west coast and the landscape that inspires every bottle.

Whether you enjoy it:
🥃 Neat over ice
🫚 In a Dark 'n' Stormy with ginger beer and fresh lime
🍹 Shaken into your favourite rum cocktail
🥃 Or as a post-dinner dram

We'd love you to give it a try.

Supporting passionate, independent Scottish producers is something we care deeply about, and we're proud to have Blackhouse Rum behind our bar. Next time you're in, ask for a dram and discover what makes it so special.

Slàinte! 🥃

At the Kilchrenan Inn, some of our favourite ingredients don't come from a supplier- they come from the countryside on our doorstep.

Throughout the seasons, our kitchen looks to nature's larder for inspiration.
Meadowsweet, foraged from just across the road, becomes a fragrant companion to Scottish strawberries. Fresh pine tips, gathered from the woodland just a stone's throw from the inn, create a delicately aromatic ice cream. The thyme growing behind our kitchen lends its own distinctive flavour, while seabuckthorn, foraged along the coastline near Oban, brings a bright, refreshing finish to one of our sorbets.

Every ice cream and sorbet is made in-house from scratch, using carefully selected seasonal ingredients and crafted with the same care as everything that leaves our kitchen.

Our homemade ice creams and sorbets are available Wednesday-Sunday from 12 noon.

Icecreams -

-Vanilla
-Strawberry and Meadowsweet
-Chocolate and Tonka Bean
-Thyme
-Pine

Sorbets-

-Raspberry
-Green Apple
-Sea Buckthorn

If you're exploring Loch Awe or making the most of the sunshine, we'd love to welcome you for a homemade ice cream and a refreshing drink.

Because sometimes the best flavours are found just beyond our doorstep.

Explore Kilchrenan & Loch Awe

Nestled on the northern shores of Loch Awe, Kilchrenan is a peaceful Highland village with a population of around 200. Surrounded by ancient woodland, dramatic mountains and Scotland's longest freshwater loch, it is the perfect destination for anyone looking to experience the very best of Argyll.

Whether you're seeking an active adventure, a romantic escape or simply a chance to unwind, our inn provides the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Scotland.

Loch Awe
Loch Awe is the longest freshwater loch in Scotland and lies just a short walk from the Inn. Its tranquil shores offer spectacular scenery throughout the year and are ideal for peaceful strolls, wildlife watching, photography, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing and, for the adventurous, wild swimming.

Keep an eye out for ospreys fishing over the water, red squirrels in the woodland and red deer grazing on the surrounding hills.

Walking from the Kilchrenan Inn
Some of the area's most beautiful walks begin right from our front door.

Kilchrenan Meadows & Loch Shore

A gentle stroll through wildflower meadows leads to the peaceful shores of Loch Awe, where you'll find beautiful views across the water and plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife.

Inverinan Woodland Walks

Following the quiet B845 towards Inverinan takes you through native woodland alongside the loch. This peaceful route is ideal for walking, cycling and enjoying the ever-changing Highland scenery.

Dalavich Forest

A little further along the loch lies Dalavich, home to an extensive network of forest trails suitable for walkers and mountain bikers. With hidden lochans, towering Scots pines and panoramic viewpoints, it's a wonderful place to spend a day outdoors.

Ben Cruachan

For experienced hillwalkers, Ben Cruachan is the nearest Munro and offers one of Argyll's most rewarding mountain days. The climb is challenging, but the panoramic views over Loch Awe, the west coast and the surrounding Highlands make every step worthwhile.

Cycling & Outdoor Adventures
The quiet roads surrounding Kilchrenan are perfect for road cycling, while the forest trails around Dalavich provide excellent mountain biking for all abilities.

Loch Awe is also a fantastic place to explore by kayak or paddleboard, offering secluded bays, peaceful islands and unforgettable scenery. Fishing, birdwatching and wildlife photography are all popular throughout the area.

Places to Visit
There are many wonderful attractions within easy driving distance of the Kilchrenan Inn.

Kilchurn Castle (around 20 minutes by car) is one of Scotland's most iconic ruined castles, standing proudly at the head of Loch Awe and offering one of the country's most photographed views.

St Conan's Kirk, on the banks of Loch Awe, is one of Scotland's most remarkable churches, famed for its unique architecture and fascinating history.

Cruachan – The Hollow Mountain offers guided tours deep inside Ben Cruachan, where you can discover one of Britain's most impressive hydroelectric power stations built within the mountain itself.

The bustling harbour town of Oban is just a 40-minute drive away, where visitors can enjoy fresh seafood, independent shops, whisky tasting, boat trips to the Inner Hebrides and spectacular views from McCaig's Tower.

History lovers will enjoy exploring Kilmartin Glen, home to one of Europe's richest prehistoric landscapes, with ancient standing stones, burial cairns and rock carvings dating back over 5,000 years.

The picturesque town of Inveraray is also within easy reach and is home to the magnificent Inveraray Castle, the fascinating Inveraray Jail and beautiful views across Loch Fyne.

Supporting Local: Tobermory Trout

At the Kilchrenan Inn, we're passionate about showcasing the very best produce from Scotland's west coast. Wherever possible, we work with local suppliers and producers who share our commitment to quality, sustainability and exceptional flavour.

One of those trusted suppliers is Tobermory Trout, a family-run business based on the Isle of Mull. Established in 1981, Tobermory Trout has earned an outstanding reputation for producing premium rainbow trout in the crystal-clear waters off Scotland's west coast.

The trout are carefully reared in low-density sea pens, allowing them to grow slowly in a natural environment while maintaining the highest standards of welfare and sustainability. Once harvested, the fish are traditionally smoked over oak chippings at their smokehouse in Tobermory, creating the delicate, rich flavour for which they have become renowned.

Their award-winning smoked trout is enjoyed by restaurants, hotels and food lovers across Scotland, and we're proud to feature it on our breakfast menu every day.

Our Scottish Smoked Trout is served with creamy scrambled eggs on toasted sourdough – a simple dish that lets the quality of the ingredients shine. It's become a firm favourite with our guests and a wonderful way to start the day before exploring the beauty of Argyll.

By working with suppliers like Tobermory Trout, we're able to support local businesses while bringing the finest flavours of Scotland to every plate we serve.
