Burst began trading this week, after we were awarded funding by Peter Jones CBE, entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den star, to compete in a bid to be crowned winners of Tycoon in Schools 2014.
The race is on, and with student participation up by over 40 percent since the competition’s inception, competition is tougher than ever! Underpinned by Peter’s mission to put enterprise at the heart of the education system, the competition has seen thousands of young tycoons, since it was launched in 2012, benefit from loans to start up their very own businesses.
Schools involved span the length and breadth of the UK, including a team of fifteen and sixteen year olds from Bannerman High School in Glasgow who are organising a FIFA football console competition and a fifteen year old from Dorset who has designed a Pooper Scooper for dog-walkers.
We have received a comprehensive Tycoon in Schools pack, which includes calculators, pens, lapel badges and personalised business cards, putting them on track for entrepreneurial success.
A live leader board is hosted on www.tycooninschools.com where we can update their sales figures throughout the fast-paced enterprise competition. As well as the online leader board, we have their own profile on www.tycooninschools.com where we can upload photos, post videos, twitter updates and share all the latest news on their business.
Run by the Peter Jones Foundation, the competition is open to all secondary school children in England between the ages of 11 and 18. It challenges students to develop the skills and knowledge required to set up their own business and make as much money as possible in seven-week trading period.
The overall winner of Tycoon in Schools 2014 and the winners of the special awards Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 will be announced in February 2015 at a prestigious awards ceremony in London.
Peter Jones CBE commented:
“I am thrilled that Tycoon in Schools, now in its third year, is continuing to provide schoolchildren all over the country with their first taste of enterprise. Each year I am bowled over by the talent and confidence of participating students, and I look forward to seeing each of them continue to develop their entrepreneurial flair this year.
“Tycoon in Schools’ mission is to put enterprise at the very heart of every young person’s education and the enthusiasm of this year’s participants demonstrates that entrepreneurship is really beginning to be celebrated amongst our future workforce.
“I have been incredibly impressed by the business plans submitted by each team and I wish them all the very best of luck during their trading period between now and the end of December. I can’t wait to see all of the ideas in action!”
Tycoon in Schools is a free national enterprise competition spearheaded by Peter Jones CBE, entrepreneur and star of Dragons’ Den, which gives young people the chance to run their own business.
