This is an easy 'Where am I?' to celebrate the Dartmoor National Park's significant anniversary in 2026, marking 75 years since its official designation, on the 30th October 1951.

Long before its official protection, Dartmoor has stood as a cherished landscape.

It is a place of wonderful wildlife, powerful geological forces, relentless weather and more than 10,000 years of human activity. To walk across Dartmoor is to walk where those before us have walked.

This scenic area is a short drive from Langstone Manor Holiday Park or for the more adventurous amongst our visitors, we can recommend a great walk to this site.

"Merrivale antiquities refer to a famous collection of late Neolithic to Bronze Age prehistoric monuments located on Dartmoor.

Meaning and Significance
• Definition: A combined ritual complex and domestic settlement site dating roughly from 2500 BC to 1000 BC.
• Archaeological Layout: Features two parallel double stone rows, a single stone row, a small stone circle, standing stones (menhirs), burial cairns with cists (stone-lined graves), and the remains of over 50 prehistoric roundhouses.
• Cultural Purpose: While the exact meaning remains speculative, archaeologists interpret the site as a sacred ceremonial landscape and territorial marker rather than a functional dwelling space, though it sits directly adjacent to a working Bronze Age farming community.
• Alignments: Some stones show potential alignments with solar and lunar events, reflecting ancient spiritual or astronomical traditions"

No word of a lie, the fork on the right ( can't see it 🕵️, you might have to zoom in 🙈), was found in the dish washing area, we kid you not 😀

Our question is, who checked The Borrowers in and do they want their fork back? 🤣

Isn't nature wonderful, so resilient despite the numerous heatwaves throughout the summer 🌞

Are we pet friendly?
I think these photos speak for themselves 🐶

These three mischievous yet adorable French Bulldogs, Mable, Maggie and Madge are currently staying in Maple Cottage - how apt 🥰

You've heard of cats cradle, well these three are great at playing dogs cradle and getting their owners caught up in the middle 😁👍

Any pooch that visits reception is sure to get a treat from Jane and Jacqui 🦴

Well behaved dogs, like Mable, Martha and Madge are welcome in the touring field, camping pods ( two dogs max) , more recently the mega pods ( two dogs max) , Pew Tor apartment and our two cottages, Maple and Honeysuckle.

There's still plenty of time to book for this season and bring your pampered pooch with you 🙏- a warm welcome at reception awaits everybody, including your pets.
