Hi Ditchers, today is my last shift behind the bar 😞 so I just wanted to say a massive speech before I go (apologies 😂)
Eleven years ago, when I was just 19, I walked through the Ditch doors for an interview with Ged and Ingrid. I think it’s fair to say I wasn’t in a good place, I had lots of things going on at the time. I was sad, lonely and full of self-doubt. i truly believe getting this job saved my life, which I’m sure people close to me really know how true that is. this pub became the place I could come to. It gave me somewhere safe, somewhere I belonged, and most importantly, it gave me a family.
It’s hard to describe just how amazing this little pub is unless you’re a part of it. It’s a family, a community, a place to go when you need a laugh and decent pint.
And that’s what I’ll miss the most, having you all there at the end of the day, to tell you about everything I have going on, laughing at all my fashion choices, sharing funny stories, doing the quizzes.
Now when I think back to that 19 year old kid, she never would have imagined the things I have achieved, and that’s mostly down to every single person I’ve met in this pub. you all believed in me when I didn’t, and now I have my own family, my degree, and now my dream career.
Ged and Ingrid and Ade Chris - I honestly cannot thank you enough. You saw something in me, even when I didn’t necessarily see it in myself. You believed in me, gave me opportunities, encouraged me and helped me become the person I am today. I will always be incredibly grateful for that.
And then there’s all of you - the customers, the regulars, the familiar faces. Some of you have watched me grow up over these 11 years. We’ve shared laughs, birthday nights out, day trips, new years eves, quizzes, Christmases, highs and lows.
Leaving is honestly heartbreaking.
Because even though I know I’m moving on to something new and exciting, I’m leaving behind a huge part of my life, but never the love I have for this place. The Ditch will always be a part of my heart and a massive part of my story.
So thank you. to every member of staff, to every customer, to every person who has ever walked through those doors and made this place what it is -thank you for being part of my life, and thank you for saving me.
I love you all more than I can put into words.
And while I’m excited for what comes next, I know my heart will always be in the ditch 🥺
So… cheers to 11 years, to the memories, to the friendships, and to whatever comes next.
Thank you Ditchers, I love you forever ❤️
