KIND WORDS 🌟 We were so grateful to read this wonderful review from a recent guest of the Farmhouse.

"What an exceptional stay from start to finish. The staff were fantastic, and the room itself was beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, and had everything I needed. The pub attached to the cottage was a real highlight, and the breakfast experience the next morning was outstanding.

Lovely thoughtful touches too, homemade shortbread, a pot of crisps, port and water waiting in the room, and even the shower gel was a nice treat. There were also handy guides with useful leisure and local information, a nice touch even though I was staying for work.

Really good value for money, in an ideal, peaceful setting. I’ll definitely be back for a leisure break in future."

Meet the Cherry Bakewell tart at the Fitzherbert Arms 🍒 - a permanent fixture on the pudding menu, and for very good reason (as modelled here by our lovely Hattie!)

Buttery almond frangipane, a layer of sharp cherry, all sat on crisp pastry, finished with berry coulis and a scoop of clotted cream ice cream 🍨

The Bakewell tart hails from the Derbyshire town it’s named after, evolving from the original Bakewell pudding - a happy accident, so the story goes, after a cook spread almond paste over jam instead of mixing it in.

Over a century later, it’s still one of Britain’s best-loved bakes 🇬🇧, and this version might just be the best excuse yet to order pudding first ✨

Six towns, six centuries of clay, one very good reason to stay 🗺️🏺

The Potteries have been shaping the world's finest ceramics since the 1700s... and from the Fitzherbert Arms, you're closer to that story than you might think. To make the most of it, we've put together a guide to the region: bottle kilns and factory tours, museums and makers, all mapped out from our door.

You'll find the likes of Middleport Pottery in Burslem - the oldest working pottery in the UK, and home to Burleigh - alongside Moorcroft's hand-tubed art pottery, the archives at Spode, and the Gladstone Pottery Museum, best known as the home of Channel 4's Great Pottery Throw Down.

Further along the trail, World of Wedgwood opens the doors of the original 1940s factory, while the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery holds the world's greatest collection of Staffordshire ceramics under one roof. Emma Bridgewater's factory rounds things off nicely, with a decorating workshop and afternoon tea if you've time to linger.

And if a day among the kilns calls for a night to match, our Pottery Breaks are built for exactly that: one night in the Fitzherbert Farmhouse, dinner for two at the Fitz, a full Staffordshire breakfast, and tickets to one of three tours - Gladstone, Moorcroft or World of Wedgwood.

£225 for two sharing, Monday to Thursday, until the end of September 2026.

Call 01782 796782 or visit https://fitzherbertarms.co.uk to book... please allow 48 hours' notice to arrange your tour 🫖

Step into the jewel in Stoke-on-Trent's crown 👑

At Moorcroft's Heritage Visitor Centre, you'll walk inside a Grade II listed bottle oven just as potters did over a century ago...tracing the story of Moorcroft's luxury art pottery from Art Nouveau through Art Deco to the astonishing designs of today, with fascinating pieces on display in their original Liberty Cabinets 🏺

Our Moorcroft Pottery Factory Tour break pairs the experience with a night to remember on the Swynnerton estate: settle into our Fitzherbert Farmhouse bedrooms, enjoy a main course dinner at the award-winning Fitzherbert Arms, and wake to a full Staffordshire breakfast before your tour ☕

There's a discount voucher for Moorcroft's luxury art pottery too, so you can take a little of the magic home with you.

Available Tuesday to Friday, £225 for two, sharing.

FOOD & CUVÉE WEEK ~ THE WINES TO KNOW 🍷

This week at the Fitz, we’re shining a light on something a little unexpected… a range of alcohol-free wines and Cuvées from former chef Jörg Geiger, crafted from heirloom orchard fruit in the Swabian Alb, Germany.

They carry all the structure and character of a proper wine list, and Head Chef Nathan and his team have paired each one with a dish designed to bring out its best.

Rosenzauber Cuvée — soft notes of raspberry and mint, paired with our spiced lamb meatballs, apricot and almond couscous, and rose harissa mayonnaise. A gentle, floral start.

36° Grenache — plum and dark berries, standing up beautifully to pan roasted venison loin with its blackberry and port jus. This is the one for anyone who misses a proper glass of red.

35° Sauvignon Blanc — crisp green apple and gooseberry, served alongside pan fried seabass with king prawns, mussels and a fresh fennel and saffron broth. Light, bright, and exactly what fish deserves.

Cuvée No 11 — apple and oak leaf, closing things out with our apple and hazelnut frangipane tarte. A quiet, elegant finish.

Four wines to have on your radar, whether you’re drinking or not, available at the Fitz as part of our No & Low list. Our special menu is available until the end of Saturday 8th August - no bookings required, walk-in only.

WINE MAN ~ JÖRG GEIGER AT THE FITZ 🍷

Wine Man has talked about his love for Jörg Geiger drinks before, but today he’s showcasing his wines - the 35° Sauvignon Blanc and 36° Grenache.

These are excellent wines, minus the alcohol, and built with the same care Geiger brings to everything from the Swabian Alb.

The 35° Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and lively, all green apple and gooseberry… the kind of white that wants something fresh and simple alongside it, fish especially.

The 36° Grenache goes the other way entirely: soft plum, dark berries, an outstanding glass of red without the alcohol.

Two very different characters, both made from heritage fruit rather than grapes, and both proof that alcohol-free doesn’t mean flavour-free.

We’re celebrating both this week at the Fitz, with our ongoing Food & Cuvée Week, running until Saturday 8th August, with each one paired against a special dish from Head Chef Nathan and his team. Pop in and try something really special - mo designated driver required!
