Garuda Indonesian Indonesian Restaurant in Swansea City Centre The Garuda opened in June 2000 and is still the only Indonesian restaurant in Wales.

The menu has been chosen with great care by the owner and chef, Suriyani (Ani) to bring you the best of Indonesian cooking – from delicious meat, fish and rice dishes to dishes suitable for vegetarians and vegans. On November 30th 2010, Ani suffered a stroke. As a result the restaurant was closed for over two months and only reopened in February 2011. Ani has made very good progress, so we have decided to extend our opening times to four nights a week (Wed-Sat). Ani would like to thank all her customers for their good wishes and continuing support.

My last post was just before Ani and I went to Indonesia for our usual month-long visit to see Ani’s families — one in Java and the other in Sumatra.
It was good to see everyone again, and the children are all another year older. Ani finds it a bit difficult there because it’s very hot and humid.
We also visited an old friend we’ve had for years who lives in Jakarta, so we spent three days there. One day we decided to go out for a meal, but it took nearly an hour to get to the restaurant because of the traffic — so many cars everywhere.

Jakarta now has around 15 million people, so it’s no surprise.
As usual, we finished our trip with three days in Singapore, which is always lovely. When we got back home, there were lots of people — new faces and familiar ones — thank goodness.

We hope people will keep coming back, as June and July are usually quieter with so many going on holiday.

Hi everyone,
My last post was back in December, so I’m sorry I’ve been quiet for a while — it’s been a very busy time. But I’m back again, and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

We reopened on January 7th, and as expected the first couple of weeks were quite slow. People usually need a bit of time to recover after the holidays.
Thankfully, the rest of January picked up really well, with several birthday groups keeping us busy. February has also been good, and tonight we’re looking forward to welcoming lots of couples celebrating Saint Valentine’s Day.

We hope to see both new and familiar faces at the Garuda. As always, there are plenty of photos for you to enjoy.

As I mentioned in my last post, we had a lot of groups at the start of November, and that momentum has continued right into December. Already this month we’ve welcomed two more groups, with another booked for December 20th — which will be our final day at Garuda before we close for the holidays. We’ll reopen on Friday, January 2nd.

A huge thank you to everyone for your support. Thanks to you, Garuda is heading into its 26th year — something we’re truly grateful for.
