We’ve had lots of lovely questions about when the new BCT Nocturnal Garden is open for viewing, so here’s how you can access this wonderful community space. 💚

🌱 Clydach Community Gardens CIC is open every Wednesday, so you’re very welcome to pop along and have a look around.

Can’t make a Wednesday? No problem! 😊 As the Nocturnal Garden is a Clydach Community Gardens CIC project, which we are incredibly proud to support, you can contact the Gardens directly to arrange a visit outside of their usual Wednesday opening.

You can also contact Clydach Community Council and we’ll do our best to help arrange for the garden to be opened. 🌙✨

Grants of up to £1,000 Available for Young People to Improve Local Green Spaces (UK)

The Linnean Society of London has opened applications for its Our Local Nature Grant Scheme, offering young people across the UK the chance to lead projects that connect their communities with the natural world.

The scheme provides awards of up to £1,000 to individual young people and organisations linked to young people. Funding can support costs such as materials, room hire, publicity, guest speakers, training, transport and project-specific staff. linnean

Applications must be made by individuals or organisations linked to groups of young people, usually aged 16 or under, with proposals expected to be shaped and led by the young people themselves. This includes, but is not limited to, school staff, student groups, home education groups, community groups and small charities.

Projects should promote biodiversity awareness or improve access to local green spaces, with past examples ranging from school festivals and biodiversity murals to community gardens and guided nature walks.

The closing date for applications is midnight 25th October 2026. Decisions will be announced in December. Successful projects will begin in January 2027 and conclude by July

Funding to Encourage Volunteering Amongst Young People (UK)

Grants of up to £500 are available to individuals or groups of young people aged 30 or under who aim to make a difference through volunteering or community service.

The funding is made available through the Alec Dickson Trust. It prioritises projects involving many volunteers, addresses the specific needs of disadvantaged communities and individuals, and is innovative and sustainable.

The Trust is looking for projects that identify a specific need and propose to carry out activities that will clearly help to address this need and are long-lasting and sustainable as possible.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm on 4 October 2026.

🌍💚Environmental Grants for Community Projects - applications open🌱♻️

💷Grants of £300 to £20,000 are available through The National Lottery Community Fund's Small Eco Awards programme for projects with environmental sustainability as their main aim.

The Fund supports community-led projects across the UK, with a focus on resilient, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable communities.

📍Through the Small Eco Awards programme, funding is available for projects based in Northern Ireland, Scotland, or Wales.

Projects must help people connect with and care for nature locally🌿, make a positive difference to the environment🌎, or help communities tackle pollution🚯.

💡Funding can be used to start a new activity, continue an existing one, help an organisation or community adapt to new challenges, or run one-off events with a clear environmental benefit.

Eligible projects could include:

🌻creating or improving community gardens, orchards, allotments, or wildlife areas.
🚶‍♀️running nature walks, outdoor learning sessions, or citizen science activities.
🗑️organising litter-picks, beach cleans, river clean-ups or anti-pollution campaigns.
♻️setting up community composting, reuse, repair, or recycling initiatives.
🌲planting trees, hedgerows, or wildflowers to improve biodiversity.

👉Applications can be submitted at any time, with decisions expected within 12 weeks.

Mae'r Gronfa'n cefnogi prosiectau a arweinir gan y gymuned ar draws y DU, gan ganolbwyntio ar gymunedau gwydn, cynhwysol ac amgylcheddol gynaliadwy.
