On Mondays, we will open from 4:00 PM and start serving food from 5:30 PM. The rest of the week will continue with our regular service hours.
Sophie and Ewelina have worked incredibly hard to grow what we offer here, and you, our community, have responded to it with incredible generosity. But even with all that progress, there are still times here where it's quiet. Every visit, every pint, every meal genuinely makes a difference to us. Supporting local and independent isn't just a nice thing to do, it's what keeps places like the George & Dragon thriving.
This change has not been a sudden decision. As the hospitality industry continues to evolve and face new challenges, we want to be transparent with our community about why these adjustments are necessary.
One of the biggest challenges we face is VAT. You may have noticed that the cost of a pint has increased, but that's only part of the picture. Rising wages, National Insurance contributions, food costs, and energy prices all have a significant impact on local businesses. Your local pub is working hard to keep its doors open.
VAT is currently set at 20%, and we are asking for a fairer rate of 10%, similar to that of many European countries.
The George & Dragon has been part of the Swallowfield community since the 17th Century. Over the years, it has evolved from a meeting place for local societies and a working farm into the restaurant and pub you know today.
It holds generations of stories: from after-work drinks and family gatherings to dog walks, celebrations, and romantic first dates. These moments have always been part of the George & Dragon story, and hopefully part of yours, too.
Although times can be challenging, we remain committed to providing the best possible experience for our guests.
Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you for supporting local. ✊️
