Actually us locals are talking about it! So many people have already begun to help clear it up. It’s devastating for local wildlife. 😢

SHOCKING: A billion plastic pellets have just spilled into the River Tyne, after a container ship crashed into another vessel.

These pellets are almost IMPOSSIBLE to remove from the river and there is a real risk that seabirds and fish will mistake them as food. And once ingested these pellets can KILL birds and fish by causing fatal blockages, starvation and toxic chemical buildup.

This tragic spill is further proof of the dangers of plastic. It kills wildlife and never fully disappears - instead it just breaks down into more harmful MICROPLASTICS.

We urgently need to cut plastic production for good. Luckily, In 2026, we have a once in a generation chance to cut plastic production through a new legally binding Global Plastic Treaty. We are currently in our busiest period for wildlife admissions, with babies arriving every day in huge numbers. Our rescue is filling up quickly, and we’re running low on some essential supplies needed to keep our little patients safe, clean, and comfortable.

We urgently need donations of:

Tuesday - Friday 10:00-15:00
Saturdays 10:00-15:30

KITCHEN CLOSES 30 mins BEFORE CAFE CLOSING TIME. If you would like to place an order to collect after this time, please phone ahead to avoid disappointment. (01915641763)

Everything is vegan, egg and dairy free. We also have non gluten options. Please be aware that because our kitchen is very small we cannot guarantee 100% gluten free, please let our staff know if you are coeliac before ordering. 🙏

Driving home today, I paused on a busy stretch of road whilst in slow moving traffic, to let a couple of bairns on their bikes cross over. The driver behind me impatiently honked his horn. Just what the hell is the matter with people?! Is there no common decency any more?! I’m still fuming thinking about it. Were those few seconds really going to make that much difference to their journey? Ffs

Anyway Rant over. Here are some lovely cherry scones.
