What tea are you drinking?

Today Harashima Sencha from Yame. A question from dear tea friend Hannah about my tea choice sent me to find this beautiful Houhin one of my all time favourites from last years trip to Fukuoka from Mitsushi Kumagai. After the Tea House closed I sat in the window & enjoyed this beautiful tea in this beautiful teaware. Each a story of dedication coming together to offer the perfect tea moment. Even better with a sweet Matcha cookie

This is the joy of the tea house - to share time & feel inspired by conversation. Thank you Hannah Hinsley 🌱✨❤️ We are back tomorrow from 10

Natures Cup / Nuxalbari
Robust & Beautiful
Regenerative Organic Agriculture

We have been lucky to know Sonia & the team at NuxalbariTea since 2017 when our paths crossed by chance. A force of nature and a force for nature a chat with Sonia or quick exchange over text always brings new insight, hope and a reminder of what is possible when we observe, listen & respond with bravery and hope rather than fear. Sonia - a daily living example of all these qualities ✨🌱

When we first met Sonia shared how her ancestral 1200 acre tea garden welcomed safe passage of elephants walking their migratory route between forests- making Nuxalbari the first large tea plantation certified as elephant-friendly. We walked the garden and talked about the many initiatives here from ‘Hathi Sathi’ (elephant friend) the community nature group, the education of guards to offer early warning systems (and therefore safe passage for elephants) and the areas of garden under organic agriculture - including spaces for native rainforest species to feed local wildlife and increase overall biodiversity.

And then a few years ago Sonia shared how she would once again break new ground - transitioning the whole garden to a model of regenerative organic farming 🌱

Yesterday she shared these photos with me of the garden looking beautiful & robust and the joy felt this year as the pest pressure has reduced. When I came off the phone I sat, made some Autumn Flush and reflected on its sweet taste - the energy, commitment and love and respect for nature, soil and community poured into every cup. As they state at Nuxalbari ‘we grow joy’ 🌱and you can taste it!

When I asked if I could share these photos Sonia replied ‘Please do. It gives me great joy to share what is possible without pesticides and weedicides and chemical fertilisers’

So this Saturday - let’s raise a cup to the team here - if you haven’t tasted their tea there has perhaps never been a better time.

Thanks Sonia for the friendship, inspiration & beautiful tea ✨🌱 and for allowing us to share your tea and these beautiful photos

Journey to Slow
Our 2026 Advent Calendar / open for pre order
Link in bio / we look forward to sharing tea & time

This December we invite you to put the kettle on and come with us on a ‘Journey to slow’.

We have been fortunate to live a life with tea since 2007 and this year, as the world has become even more noisy & uncertain, we have spent time reflecting on the wonderful journey tea continues to take us on - a transformative journey to slow. Through the places we have been, the people we have met, the knowledge tea communities have so openly shared with us we have come to walk a slower path.

Through this years advent calendar we invite you to join us as we travel from that first sip in 2007 to the present day. It’s a love letter to tea & it’s people and we hope, as you sit and sip you too will feel an infusion of slow.

Each of the 25 teas is presented to you in a pre-filled tea filter in a hand stamped kraft bag labelled with the day of the month. You can simply check the brewing instructions on the enclosed leaflet and place the filter in your favourite cup or bowl. You can also, of course, empty the contents into your tea ware and save the tea filter to use at a later time

Included in this pack are two small booklets. The first is a brewing guide to accompany each of the teas. The second documents our journey As usual, throughout December, Michelle will also go live every day at 7am to share her five minutes of tea drinking a day with you all.

Bringing Nature In
Beautiful balance
2026 Samidori Sencha
Ohashi Family Yame

Over 56 years of organic cultivation. This Samidori Sencha ‘The most beautifully balanced of the year - the conditions of the field, the timing of the harvest and the processing all aligned perfectly’.

Beautiful words from Kotaro Ohashi below reminding us of the importance of individuality in these changing times. Those farming organically often do so quietly - but their choices, voices, experiences and expertise have so much to teach us. Change really can all start when we slow down and listen - and that can begin simply with a beautiful cup of tea

__________________________________________

Today, tea is often expected to be uniform —
deep green in color,
and visually perfect.

But tea grown without pesticides,
swaying in the mountain wind,
bears traces of insect bites and variations in color —
stories left behind by nature.

In leaves that are not perfect,
there is a beauty that human hands can never create.

That is why we find this tea, full of character, so dear.

It is something mass production can never achieve —
here, it is natural that no two teas are the same.

Rare, expressive, and full of individuality.
This is a world where
“every choice tastes the same” does not exist.

Our Dorset Tea House reopens 8.10

Wonderful to welcome friends from our tea community to the Tea House today ahead of our reopening in October. The space is definitely happiest when sharing tea.

Still a few finishing touches to add - although the space is ever evolving alongside our life in tea
