Some group stops are just practical.
This one comes with a harbour view.

For tour groups arriving into Stromness, The Stromness Hotel offers an easy place to slow down, gather, eat, drink, and take in the town before the next part of the journey.

Set right on the harbourfront, just a short walk from the pier, it gives groups more than a quick stop — it gives them a real Stromness moment.

A coffee break after the ferry.
A relaxed meal before heading west.
A warm place to regroup after a day of Orkney history, sea air, and island roads.
Or a harbourfront base for groups staying overnight.

Useful for heritage tours, walking groups, ferry arrivals, coach itineraries, and Orkney tour organisers looking for a stop that feels part of the place.

With the Scottish summer and longer days approaching, it's the perfect time to plan an island escape.

Stromness is an excellent base for exploring Orkney, with ancient monuments, dramatic coastal scenery and some of the islands' most iconic attractions all within a short drive of the harbour.

Discover thousands of years of history, from Neolithic villages and stone circles to spectacular Atlantic cliffs and unforgettable island views.

Which Orkney attraction would be first on your list?

If you organise shore excursions or group dining for cruise guests calling at Stromness, we should be on your list.

The Stromness Hotel is five minutes on foot from the pier. Our Scapa Flow restaurant seats 60 and we're set up for groups — whether that's a sit-down lunch between stops, a full dining experience, or coffee and something homemade at Flattie in a Teacup before guests reboard.

Stromness is a working harbour town with 5,000 years of history on its doorstep. Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar, Scapa Flow — it's all within easy reach. We know how cruise days work and we're used to making them run smoothly.

If you're catching the morning ferry, breakfast first.

The Scapa Flow Restaurant is open for breakfast from 7:30 every morning — weekdays and weekends alike. Local eggs, fresh rolls out of the oven, and the harbour just outside. It's a decent way to start an Orkney morning before the day takes over.

No need to book. Just come in.

Walk-ins welcome from 7:30, every day.

June in Orkney is something else.

The Arctic terns are back, just returned from the Antarctic and already diving the harbour for sand eels like they never left. The Scottish primrose is out along the coastal grassland, tiny and purple, and you won't find it anywhere else in the world except here and the very top of the Scottish mainland. And the sun doesn't set until just after ten, and by midsummer the sky barely goes fully dark.

If you've been thinking about an Orkney trip, there's genuinely no better month for it.

We know the usual headaches: sending an enquiry and waiting days for a reply, pricing that only becomes clear at the end, promises of flexibility that never make it on paper, and F&B minimums turning into your responsibility.

At The Stromness Hotel, we do things differently.
With 42 rooms and seating for 60 in one go, we make group bookings simple.

Enquiries are answered the same day, pricing is transparent from the first conversation, and everything is clearly documented before you commit.
No hidden minimums. No commission games. Just a straightforward hotel ready to welcome your group.
