Massive weekend for Stratford with the food festival, dragon boat racing, Heritage Week events and an array of live theatre and music - including the seasonal finale of the bandstand concerts - plus so much !

The Food Festival takes place today( Sat) and tomorrow with hundreds of stalls and events across the town centre including cookery demos and kiddy activities. FREE

The annual Dragon Boat Race takes place on the river tomorrow - always one of the highlights of the town calendar - colourful, exciting and raising desperately needed funds for Shakespeare Hospice. FREE

It’s the last weekend of Heritage Week. Escape Arts are hosting a people’s archive event at their Sheep Street HQ from 1.30 - 4.30 pm today. They are also part of an exhibition about the history of Rother Street Arts House from 11 - 3pm today at the venue- did you know it used to be a hospital? FREE

Stratford Society’s summer exhibition continues at Havard House. FREE

Shakespeare’s church (Holy Trinity) is open from 10am - 3.45pm today and from 1 - 3.15 pm tomorrow. Entrance is FREE but there is a charge to visit Shakespeare’s grave.

The Shakespeare Houses - The Birthplace, New Place and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage are all open as usual - and remember tickets are valid for 12 months and there is FREE entry for qualifying local residents.

Package tickets are also available with Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and Guildhall.

Stratford Town Walk covers the entire town history in two hours stopping off at all the key sites. 11am every day plus 2pm on Saturday and their famous ghost tour is at 7.30pm tonight.

Tudor World have their Shakespeare town tour today at 2pm plus ghost tours in the museum every evening.

For theatre lovers the sell-out Home, I’m Darling is on at The Bear Pit, Wuthering Heights at The Attic and The Factory at The Other Place.

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre remains “dark” at the moment but has a variety of tours including Costume, Theatre and Riverside available plus FREE access to the tower and The Plays The Thing exhibition.

For music lovers the last two Town Trust FREE Bandstand concerts take place - Sax Pistols 2pm today and Brimstone Celtic 2pm tomorrow .

The Ultimate Eagles are at Rother Street Arts House tomorrow evening. The Texan Peacocks at The British legion tonight. Amy Owen at The Coachouse and Jamie knight at The Townhouse with Adam Lee there tomorrow. Also check out other venues across town like Avon Lounge and The Thatch.

Tonight’s the night….

The long anticipated Home, I’m Darling opens at The Bear Pit Theatre with a brilliant cast of local talent.

Ticket sales have been phenomenal with many performances between now and Sat 26 a total sell out.

Here’s our weekly round up of what we are aware is going on in Stratford this weekend - hopefully to inspire everyone to get out and about.

This weekend it’s all about celebrating Britain’s great cultural heritage with FREE Heritage Open Days taking place across the country until 20 September.

And where better to come for culture and heritage than Stratford!

The conservation work currently being undertaken at Hall’s Croft by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust comes under the spotlight on today (Sat) and tomorrow (Sun) as part of the initiative. The world leading team of experts heading up the multi million pound project will be on hand between 10am and 4pm on both days to explain the project. Although FREE booking is preferred

Stratford’s historic Town Hall - damaged by fire not once but twice and still home to Stratford Town Council - will be open from 10am - 4pm today with councillors on hand to show people round. FREE.

Today also sees the striking Baptist Church in Payton Street - celebrating 200 years of worship - open from 11am - 4pm for tours. FREE

Another lovely day by the looks of things so definitely worth thinking about popping into town for a mooch around and a spot of lunch or early supper.

Lots of things going on in town but here’s just a sample:

The market is on all day today opposite us.

The Baptist Church in Payton Street is open from 10am and 4pm today as part of Heritage Open Days.

Then there is live music with three local bands - Mosaics, Inkline, Floor24 - are all performing at Rother Street Arts House tonight.

Let’s start the weekend off as we mean to go on!

The incredible summer season at Royal Shakespeare Theatre might have come to an end ….but that does not mean every stage in town has gone “dark”.

Tonight sees the opening night of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights at The Attic Theatre.

This bitter-sweet tale of soulmates caged by class comes thanks to the ever talented Tread The Boards theatre company.

Evening performances are 7.30pm Mon to Sat - so plenty of time to come to us first for a pre theatre meal ( we are only 8 mins walk away). Alternately, come to us after a matinee performance at 2.30pm each Saturday.

Tickets are available on line and at the box office.
