You’ve watched us taste the wines… now it’s your turn.

After four weeks of taking you behind the scenes at Poulton Hill, we’re bringing the tasting back to The Old Stocks.

Join us on Thursday 1st October at 7.30pm for an evening with the team from Poulton Hill, getting to know this award-winning Cotswold wine producer and, most importantly, tasting the wines.

Sparkling, whites, reds and rosés will all be poured, accompanied by canapés from The Old Stocks kitchen and a little insight into our own food ethos too.

Whether you know your English wines or simply really enjoy drinking them, this is a relaxed chance to taste, learn, ask questions and enjoy a very good evening.

Tickets are £45 per person and there are just 20 places available, so booking ahead is essential.

Somewhere between the first drink and the last bite, dinner becomes more than just dinner. 🥰

Behind the scenes, Ian and our kitchen brigade are busy working with the seasons, creating dishes from good produce and putting their own Old Stocks twist on things.

Then it’s time to pull up a chair, settle in and enjoy it.

So if you’re in Stow this week, make an evening of it. Have a wander around the village, come through our doors and stay for dinner.

THE FOURTH POUR: finally, the tasting.

After exploring the vineyard and seeing what goes into making Poulton Hill wines, there was only one thing left to do… taste them.

We sampled the Arlington White, Red and Rosé alongside the Bulari sparkling white and rosé — with Charlotte particularly taken by the 2021 vintage Bulari and those delicious toasty, brioche notes.

What struck us throughout our visit was just how hands-on Natalie and Gabriella are. From growing the grapes and tending the vines to making and blending the wines, tastings and events, they’re involved every step of the way.

And now, they’re bringing a little bit of Poulton Hill to us.

On Thursday 1st October, join Poulton Hill in the Front Room at the Old Stocks for an intimate evening of wine tasting, paired with canapés from the Old Stocks kitchen.

The third pour… and we’re getting to know the grapes.

Six varieties grow amongst the vines at Poulton Hill — Bacchus, Seyval Blanc and Phoenix for the whites, with Pinot Noir, Regent and Rondo for the reds.

Each has its own quirks, but Pinot Noir has earned itself quite the reputation as the diva of the vineyard. Thin-skinned, temperamental and notoriously tricky to grow, it needs plenty of care and attention — one of the reasons you’ll often see Pinot Noir commanding a higher price on a wine list.

Meanwhile, Bacchus has become something of an English wine star, producing fresh, aromatic wines often compared to Sauvignon Blanc.

Turns out there’s a lot more to choosing a bottle of wine than we realised…
