The book festival will see brilliant q***r authors including Jackie Kay, Anthony Delaney, Hannah Kaner and AJ West join panels and discussions at The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum on 17th October.

Another busy weekend for us this weekend! Our thanks to for sharing all about her novel 'the Windhover' on Friday evening. We hope everyone who came along enjoyed it as much as we did, and thanks as ever to Liam Bell for his expert chairing!

If you've enjoyed our events with Tom in the past you can hear him chatting all about his upcoming novel this year at Aberfoyle & Strathard Book Festival!

We loved bookselling here last year, and Aberfoyle is so gorgeous in the autumn. We hope to see lots of you there!!

Tom is a neurodivergent writer and his acclaimed debut novel Only Here, Only Now won the McKitterick Prize, was shortlisted for the Gordon Burn and ADCI Prizes, and was chosen as Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year. Tom will be talking about his new novel Something Like Happiness!

I don't over exaggerate when I say this is one of the most important Scottish books to be published this year, and it was such a joy to chat to a writer as knowledgeable and passionate as Ashley. Thank you to Ashley for sharing Marie's story with us, we wish you every success with the book!

Join us for a lovely evening with Lorna Elcock in conversation with Liam Bell all about her debut novel, The Windhover. 

Lorna Elcock is a fiction writer. Her work has been shortlisted for the Women's Prize Trust Discoveries Award and longlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award. She has studied literature at Glasgow and York universities, and creative writing at Goldsmiths. 

The Windhover is Lorna’s first novel. Perthshire. 1957. The Camerons arrive from a tenement in Glasgow to run a remote Scottish youth hostel, unaware they are setting in motion a terrible chain of events that will reverberate through the decades. Siblings Alison and Ewan delight in swapping grey city life for the mountains and lochs surrounding Rannoch.

Only their elder sister Moira understands their granny's dark looks and their mother's increasingly poor health. As the summer progresses and Mr Cameron's incendiary secrets begin to surface, the family's attempts to create a new life unravel - and then the adults make an unthinkable decision, one that wrenches the Camerons apart. It's 1982. Ewan is long estranged from his family.

Now a celebrated artist working in burgeoning London, he is a world away from Rannoch. So why do his paintings return to the rugged landscapes and soaring birds of his youth? Four hundred miles north of him, in grey and rainy Cumbernauld, Moira knows that it is down to her to remedy the effects of their disastrous childhood before it is too late. The Windhover is an emotionally devastating story of lost children and misguided adults, tracing the shockwaves of lies and loss within one family and exploring whether redemption is truly possible when the betrayal runs so deep.
