Ready for another author event? We know we are!

If you can’t wait for OUT to get your fix of LGBTQIA+ history, then we have just the event for you! On Friday 24th July at 7pm, we will be welcoming along historian and translator Ashley Douglas!

Ashley is a historian, translator and author, specialising in LGBT+ history and the Scots language. She writes for both children and adults. She has worked with a range of national heritage, literary and educational organisations, including the National Library of Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Time for Inclusive Education and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Ashley will be with us chatting all about her upcoming release, With My Own Hand: The secret life of Marie Maitland, Scotland’s sixteenth-century Sappho - a narrative non-fiction biography, which shares Marie's remarkable untold story, based on years of original historical research.

Tickets available on the website!

So last week you may have seen that we have been given a grant by the publishers at Penguin.

Besides our new middle grade book club -another program we are rolling out this summer with the help of the grant is a summer creative writing course.

Over six weeks of summer break Sid and Kiera will be hosting a creative writing workshop for aspiring writers ages 10 to 14. It will be every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 from the 1st of July to the 8th of August. The course will be free to those kids attending. We ask that you RSVP by signing up your kiddo at the shop or you can find a digital sign up sheet that is linked in the bio and is in the Creative Writing Post on our Substack. We ask that you please sign up by the 29th of June so we can get a head count.

The truly lovely popped in to see us today! Pictured here with our equally lovely favourite regular, Jim, who by amazing coincidence has been reading and thoroughly enjoying Robin's book this week.

Robin has also very kindly signed the couple of copies we had on the shelf so if you fancy one you better come get it quickly!
