1️⃣ You will do a lot of things that no one will ever see or know about — and they will absolutely make or break your business.
All the cleaning (I reckon I’ve spent 1,400+ hours cleaning 😅), admin, emails, endless trial and error, purchasing, designing, planning, number crunching… the list never ends.
2️⃣ You will make A LOT of mistakes.
Don’t worry — these teach you more than anything ever will and make you stronger and wiser.
For us that’s meant endless failed recipes, buying all our equipment… then having to buy it all again when we realised we needed gas appliances for festivals 😭
Rushing into things that cost an arm, a leg and a fistful of hair.
Spilling 5 litres of curry in a full fridge at midnight after a long event.
Need I continue?
3️⃣ There will be times when you really, really want to throw the towel in.
Bad months. Admin pile-ups. Invoices and bills stacking up. Low motivation. Missing plans with friends. Family stuff.
This is when it matters most that you don’t give up. Even when it feels like there’s no other option.
Believe in yourself. You got this far. You CAN turn it around. It WILL get better. 💚
4️⃣ You may have started because you love cooking and sharing amazing food…
…but you also become an accountant, social media manager, videographer, photographer, editor, maintenance person, handyman, admin overlord, compliance & safety officer, long-haul driver — and about 10 other jobs rolled into one.
5️⃣ Nothing prepares you for how rewarding all of this work can be.
Yes, there will be lows and hard times — but these only teach you and make you better at what you do.
When things do go well, you genuinely feel on top of the world. And although starting and running a business (especially in this climate) isn’t easy, when you find that sweet spot you can finally stand back and admire what you’ve created.
It’s a very proud feeling indeed. I don’t think there are many things in life that give you the deep satisfaction of seeing your own creation thrive and grow like running a business. 🌱
If you’re building something of your own and feeling it right now — you’re not alone.
