☀TAKING PLACE ON SATURDAY 6TH JULY- a colourful procession of silk painted banners and suncatchers, new carved wooden pieces and a trail to explore, and a celebration of local history!☀
‘Perch Here’ is a unique woodcarving trail created with the local community, enhancing the Sutton Bridge's appeal for residents and visitors by linking the riverside, bridge, moorings, and village centre. This collaboration between Lincolnshire County Council and Transported aims to engage more people with the arts.
Part of a broader place-making project, the 'Perch Here' trail features specially designed seats forming a riverwalk, created through community consultations. The whimsical designs by Peter Tree, a master craftsman and premier Windsor chair maker, reflect local heritage and stories.
Funded by the Coastal Communities Fund, these artworks were crafted with help from the Long Sutton Men’s Shed, Boston and South Holland Woodcarvers, and the Long Sutton Youth Shed. The bird-themed seats highlight the Wash's significance to migrating birds and honour ornithologist Sir Peter Scott.
The trail is going to have an official launch on Saturday 6th July at 1-3pm on Sutton Bridge green, where the finished woodcarvings will be unveiled, local history will be celebrated and we hope to have a colourful procession of Long Sutton’s suncatchers.
And we’d love to see lots of you there!
Everyone is welcome to this free event. There’ll be the new trail to explore, lovely sun catchers showcased, a colourful procession to take part in, and new, beautifully crafted, themed ‘Perch’ artworks and the Sutton Bridge Treasure chest to discover.
