🐟 LINO PRINTING WORKSHOP AT WOODMILL ART STUDIO 🐟

Join us on Saturday 5th September for a relaxed and playful afternoon of lino printing at Woodmill Art Studio, Woodmill, Southampton — just above the Coffee Kitchen.

Taking inspiration from fish, we’ll explore different ways of carving and printing to create light, shade and contrast. We’ll experiment with mark-making, texture and bold areas of black and white, helping you find different ways to bring your lino prints to life.

The workshop will be led by artists Rachael Clark and Louise Ørsted Jensen, who will guide you through the process from drawing and carving your lino to inking and making your finished prints.

No previous experience is needed. Whether you’re completely new to lino printing or have tried it before and want to develop your technique, everyone is very welcome.

Come along, get a little inky, experiment with some new techniques and leave with your own collection of fish prints! 🎣

Design and paint your own contemporary lampshade at Woodmill!

On Thursday 27th August, 6.30pm–9.30pm, Woodmill Art Studio will be joining us upstairs for an evening of colour, pattern and contemporary design.

Rather than simply copying a set design, you’ll be guided through the process of creating your own — starting with inspiration, exploring simple shapes and patterns, developing a colour palette, and finally painting your design onto a lampshade to take home.

You don’t need to consider yourself artistic or arrive with an idea already in mind. You’ll be given plenty of inspiration and guidance to help you develop something completely your own.

Expect bold shapes, beautiful colour combinations, botanical forms, playful patterns and lots of room to experiment.

Join artists Louise Ørsted Jensen and Rachael Clark for a morning of movement, colour and creativity as we explore the world of action painting. Using pendulums, string and flowing paint, you’ll create bold, contemporary abstract artwork full of rhythm, movement and unexpected patterns.

Throughout the workshop, they will guide you through a series of techniques that use gravity and motion to create striking layered designs. You’ll experiment with colour palettes, paint consistency and different swinging movements to build a piece that’s completely unique to you. While every painting starts with the same techniques, no two outcomes are ever the same.

Whether you’re trying action painting for the first time or looking for a fresh, expressive way to create, this workshop is suitable for all abilities. No artistic experience is needed—just a willingness to experiment and enjoy the process.

What’s included:

A 3-hour guided workshop

All paints and 1 small canvas (30 × 40 cm)

A stretched canvas to take home

Step-by-step guidance throughout

No experience necessary

Additional canvases are £5 each and can be purchased with cash or card on the day.

Another evening of creativity upstairs at Woodmill Coffee & Kitchen

Last week we welcomed another brilliant group for our Tote Bag Lino Printing Workshop run by Woodmill Art Studio.

From exploring colour theory and developing original patterns to carving lino and printing onto tote bags, everyone created something completely unique—and we absolutely love seeing how differently each design turned out.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and made it such a fun evening.

The Deck is Back… and what a day for it! ☀️🌿

The wait is over – our riverside deck is officially open again, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day to welcome everyone back.

Grab your favourite coffee, cool down with one of our iced drinks, or tuck into something from our new seasonal menu while watching the river drift by. There’s nowhere quite like it on a day like today.

Our newly turfed garden is settling in beautifully too, and we’ll be opening even more outdoor seating very soon.

Whether you’re catching up with friends, taking a break after a walk, or simply soaking up the sunshine, we’d love to see you.
