The Pheasant Sorbie Run by husband and wife team, Andrea and Morag offer an authentic Italian menu in a friendly cosy atmosphere.

Since opening its doors in 2015 The Pheasant has gone from strength to strength gaining loyal local customers and popularity with visitors, often describing it as a “hidden gem”. Husband and wife team Andrea and Morag Cuomo have worked hard to establish a restaurant in this rural area and have been awarded a number of accolades including The Food Awards Scotland SW Restaurant of the Year 2022 and

Restaurant of the Year 2019 Dumfries and Galloway Life Awards. Born and bred in Naples Andrea's cooking reflects his upbringing submerged in the rich culture of Italy. The menu is a combination of authentic Italian dishes inspired by his home kitchen as well as innovative recipes with Andrea’s own twist. The dessert menu is well worth saving space for as Morag’s love for foraging and using locally grown fruits comes across in her excellent desserts. Gorse ice-cream with yogurt, thyme and honey cheesecake and coconut pannacotta with hedgerow coulis and chocolate soil both seasonal favourites. Using locally sourced produce is important to the small family business with the aim to support local suppliers whenever possible and take advantage of the wealth of high quality produce that Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway itself has to offer. The Pheasant interior has been renovated with Morags creative eye; a modern rustic styled dining room with bespoke lighting, driftwood bar and original artwork create an elegant, warm and cosy atmosphere. That's a wrap folks! We're still catching our breath after a whirlwind of a week. It's still sinking in that The Pheasant isn't just closed for the season.
A few very important thank yous...
Saturday night was a special night and we'd like to thank again everyone who came to dine and celebrate with us on our final night.

Thank you to all our staff past and present who have contributed so much, put up with me bossing them about and Andrea's singing - this years team Ronan, David,Paul, Zoe, Holly, Tasha, Louise and for One Night Only our Tracy. Couldn't have done it without you ❤️

Suppliers Ted, Helen (cheese), Dougal (venison) , ,Steven Cronnie Family Butcher and Rosamund (fruit) for the excellent service and putting up with our last minute demands.

Since many people have said they missed our announcement last week I'm resharing our news that we have decided to close The Pheasant as we know it. It’s been a difficult decision but after 10 years of restaurant hospitality we’re ready for a change and more time to spend with our boys.

Looking back over all the highs and lows of running a business and raising a young family in a restaurant we certainly wouldn’t have got through the 10 years without the wonderful support of our family, friends, staff, suppliers and valued customers.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to each and every one of you for your loyalty, support, and custom over the years. It has been an absolute pleasure serving you, and your encouragement, kind words, and continued business helped shape our journey—we leave this chapter with many fond memories and immense gratitude.

But don’t worry — we’re excited to share some good news! It’s not goodbye, only ciao for now as we’ll be launching a Supper Club, featuring set menus served at special events, possibly every other month (details still to come). We’ll begin advertising these events next year.

Following our announcement on Wednesday I have more good news! It's actually 13 dining days left now as I forgot the extra book festival days - we're open Tuesday 30th to Saturday 4th 🎉
