🍊 It looks like fruit. It isn’t. Welcome to Sicily. 🇮🇹😄
This is Frutta Martorana, one of Sicily’s most beautiful traditional sweets — little fruits made from sweet almond paste, shaped and painted by hand.
But why make marzipan look like fruit?
The tradition is said to go back centuries to the Martorana convent in Palermo, where the nuns decorated trees with beautifully made marzipan fruits. What began as a clever decoration became one of Sicily’s most recognisable sweet traditions. ❤️
And now a little bit of that tradition has made its way to Mangia Bites in Skipton.
Every little fruit you see here has been shaped and painted by hand by us — so no, they aren’t real fruit. 😋
🍐 Individual Frutta Martorana — £3.50 🎁 Gift hamper — £28
Come and have a closer look… just don’t try to peel the orange. 😂
