A little heads-up for anyone planning to visit us tomorrow afternoon! 🎉

We’re delighted to be hosting the Tarbert Academy Prom tomorrow evening, so there will be a bit of extra activity around the Cabin during the afternoon as pupils and teachers decorate and prepare for their big night.

From around 6pm, our extension area will be reserved for the prom (although access to the toilets will remain available as normal through to close). The good news is that we still have plenty of outdoor seating available, including tables on the deck and under cover.

Please don’t let the extra activity put you off visiting — it should be a lovely atmosphere, if a little busier and more bustling than usual!

We hope to see you tomorrow, and we’d like to wish all the Tarbert Academy pupils a fantastic prom night! ❤️

Summer has arrived! ☀️🐟

The Seafood Cabin reopens for the season tomorrow and we’re very excited to welcome everyone back for another summer in Skipness.

The forecast looks absolutely beautiful for the week ahead, and while we can’t wait to see everyone, it’s also a gentle reminder that sunny days on the west coast can sometimes bring very busy periods for our little cabin!

We’re starting the season slightly short-staffed this week, with more of our summer team arriving soon, so there may be times where food preparation and service take a little longer — especially if lots of customers arrive at once and order in quick succession.

If you arrive and see full tables or a queue, please bear with us and don’t be afraid to ask our staff for an indication of waiting times, as sometimes the queue is simply customers paying or grabbing an ice cream or drink.

As always, everything is prepared fresh to order by a small team, and while we’ll always do our very best to get everyone served, we’d gently advise allowing plenty of time if you’re planning around ferry times or tight schedules.

And finally, if you’re hoping to visit with a larger group (7 people or more), please do let us know in advance where possible so we can try our best to accommodate you smoothly.

We can’t wait to see familiar faces and new visitors alike for another season beside the castle, the sea, and the hills of Arran ❤️

Just to let everyone know — as usual we’re planning to open for the season on Sunday 24th May over the Whitsun weekend.

If anything changes between now and then, we’ll update here.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again 🦀

It’s that time again! We’re hiring for the upcoming season 🐟🌊

The Seafood Cabin in Skipness is looking for friendly, reliable people to join our small team for the coming season.

We’re a family-run seafood restaurant on the west coast, serving simple, fresh, local seafood in a beautiful setting. Each season we build a core team of full-time staff who work most of the season, alongside a wider group of part-time and flexible helpers who support busy lunch services and cleaning shifts.

The work is hands-on and varied, including front-of-house, clearing tables, and kitchen support. Experience is helpful but not essential — what matters most is reliability, a good attitude, and being happy to muck in as part of a small team.

We’re keen to hear from:

• People looking for full-time seasonal work, with consistency and responsibility

• Local people looking for part-time work, particularly around the busy lunch service, who may have other commitments (family responsibilities, existing work, etc.)

• Seasonal staff happy with more part-time and flexible hours, living in the house and keen to enjoy a more relaxed summer while being a valued part of the team

Staff accommodation is provided at Skipness House, where the seasonal team lives together — spending the summer with the team here is something our staff often say is a real highlight of the job.

If any of this sounds good to you and you’re available for a decent part of the season between April and November, we’d love to hear from you.

We closed the Seafood Cabin for the season yesterday — and if the wind and rain over the last few days were anything to go by, it feels like the right time!

A huge thank you to everyone who visited, supported, and shared kind words with us this year. It’s been a busy, memorable season, and our small family team are ready for a well-earned rest before we start planning for next year.

We’ll share more updates (and a few well-deserved thank-yous!) next week — but for now, heartfelt thanks from all of us here at Skipness House. ❤️

Although the last couple of weeks have been quiet at times, we’ve decided to make the most of our extended season and stay open through the remainder of the UK half-term holidays.

We’ll be open with our autumn hours (11am–4pm) until our final day of the 2025 season — Friday 31st October.

We’ve really enjoyed welcoming so many of you during this trial extension and look forward to seeing you over our final weeks of the year. We’ll keep you updated here if anything changes!

Good news — the power’s back on! ⚡️🙌
We’ll be open as usual tomorrow, Sunday 5th October (fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong!).

Oh, the joys of running a business on the wild and wonderful west coast of Scotland! 💨🌊🐟

We lost power yesterday evening during Storm Amy ⚡️💨

The last estimate from the power company is that we’ll be reconnected by Monday evening — though we’re living in hope it’ll be sooner!

We’ve had to drive out just to get reception and let everyone know that if you don’t hear from us here, it means we’re still without power and closed.

So sorry to anyone planning a visit — we’ll keep you updated as soon as we’re back up and running. Fingers crossed it’s not too long! 🤞❤️
