Despite the scorcher this year growing coffee from seed in the UK is no joke! 🇬🇧🌱

As a coffee roasting company, we wanted to try it ourselves this year so we can share the journey with you. Needless to say, we won’t be roasting UK-grown beans anytime soon! However, it really shows how much effort goes into every single cup. ☕️

Here is what we've learned so far:

The Waiting Game: It can take around 5 years just to get a bush established enough to produce fruit. ⏳

The Perfect Climate: Coffee thrives on altitude and regular sunshine—the closer to the equator, the better. ☀️

The Right Diet: It requires fertile soil with a precise mix of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphates. 🌾

🍄 Fun Fact: The best coffee I’ve ever experienced came from a farm with mushrooms in the soil network. The fungi provide vital nutrients and create an underground system that allows the coffee trees to share sugars!

Respect to the farmers who do this every day. 🙌

After our delivery round on Friday, our precise van decided to snap its fan belt and completely destroy the engine however. This post is not about us, its about phil at 3 point commercial.
What an incredible guy and even better mechanic he has got us all fixed and back on the road so we can delivery to all of Sheffields amazing coffee shops, restaurants and offices with south yorkshire without delays.

The weather has been a test on our nearly 200 year old building today.

As a FYI we will be limping until our electronics are checked and safe so be aware there may be some slight delays

Every cup starts with a seed.

A coffee tree, tended by a farmer on a hillside thousands of miles from Sheffield. The cherries ripen slowly — harvested by hand, sorted, and passed through buying stations where we've built real relationships over years of direct trade.

From there, the cherries are processed, dried, and shipped across oceans until they arrive here at our little roastery on Arundel Street. Then they go into our hand-built Sheffield steel roaster — batched, profiled, and roasted to order.

A few days later, someone makes a coffee.

That's the journey in every single cup we roast. We think it's worth knowing.
