A little behind the scenes at Mayfield today!

Our ponies had their hooves trimmed and tidied up, an important part of keeping them comfortable, healthy and happy.

Just another one of those everyday jobs that goes into caring for our Mayfield family.

SUMMER AT MAYFIELD

And just like that, another summer at Mayfield has come to an end!

It’s been a very special one, with new arrivals joining the Mayfield family, our little cria growing and showing more of their personalities, busy days around the farm and so many lovely moments along the way.

Most of all, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who visited us this summer. It’s been wonderful welcoming so many of you to Mayfield and having you share this season with us.

As we say goodbye to summer and get ready for a new season at Mayfield, we wanted to look back at just a few of the moments that made the past few months so special.

Did you spend part of your summer with us? We’d love to see your Mayfield memories too! Share your favourite photos in the comments or tag us in your photos.

As the summer holidays come to an end, we’d like to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful team and to every volunteer and placement student who has helped us throughout the summer.

From caring for our animals and helping around the farm, to welcoming visitors and lending a hand with all the little jobs that keep Mayfield running every day, your time, hard work and enthusiasm have meant so much to us.

Some of you have been with us regularly, while others joined us for just a few days or weeks, but every single person has played a part in our Mayfield family this summer.

And of course, working with animals means plenty of muddy boots, unpredictable British weather and the occasional alpaca with very different ideas about how the day should go!

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who chose to spend their time helping us.

Thank you for being part of our summer at Mayfield. We couldn’t have done it without you!

MEET THE MAYFIELD FAMILY | BEATRIX

As promised, we’re continuing our Meet the Mayfield Family series…

Today, we’d love you to meet Beatrix, one of the lovely mums here at Mayfield Alpaca Farm.

And if her family connections sound familiar, there’s a very good reason for that!

Beatrix is mum to two alpacas you may already know from our series, Jusita and Archibald.

Born on 24th July 2015, Beatrix is a beautiful light fawn Huacaya alpaca with a gentle, kind and playful nature.

She is also a pedigree alpaca registered with the British Alpaca Society, and we’re very proud to have her as part of our Mayfield family.

You’ve already met a little of Beatrix through Archibald’s story. Unlike most alpacas, who usually give birth during the morning or early afternoon, Beatrix surprised everyone when little Archie decided to make his grand entrance at around 9:00 pm!

But Beatrix’s family story at Mayfield goes even further.

Her daughter Jusita later became a very special part of another little cria’s life when she took Olive under her wing.

So, from Beatrix came two very different Mayfield stories — one involving a rather unexpected late-night arrival, and another involving the beautiful bond between Jusita and Olive.

Gentle, playful and at the heart of quite a Mayfield family tree, Beatrix is certainly a very special lady in our herd.

Have you met Beatrix during a visit to Mayfield? If you have a photo of her, we’d love to see it in the comments!

MEET THE MAYFIELD FAMILY | JUSITA

As you may already know from Olive’s post, Jusita has a very special place in little Olive’s story.

Jusita is a dark brown Huacaya alpaca, born on 5 July 2021. Her mum is Beatrix, who you can also meet here at the farm, and she is Archibald’s big sister.

Friendly, gentle, caring and a little shy, Jusita is very special to us.

Sadly, she suffered an early miscarriage in 2026. A short time later, little Olive lost her mum due to complications following a uterine prolapse after giving birth.

We brought Jusita and Olive together, hoping they would comfort each other, and they quickly formed a beautiful bond. Jusita accepted Olive as her own and has looked after her ever since. The two can often be seen together around the farm.

Jusita has a beautiful brown fleece, with an unusual white patch on her fringe and a little white on her legs, making her one of the most distinctive alpacas at Mayfield.

Next time you visit, look out for Jusita and Olive together.

Meet the Mayfield Family

Meet Zeus

Born at 1pm on 16th June, Zeus is Kasey’s beautiful rose grey and white cria, and the very last cria to arrive at Mayfield in 2026.

Zeus is a third-generation Mayfield alpaca. His mum is Kasey, his dad is Zeb, and his grandad is Zorro, and all three are still here at the farm.

His gorgeous rose grey colouring and white markings make him particularly special, but Zeus has plenty of personality to go with his good looks. He’s extremely playful, full of character and a complete mummy’s boy. During his first few weeks, he barely left Kasey’s side.

With those beautiful markings and that personality, we have a feeling this little boy might grow up to be quite the Mayfield heartbreaker!

And with Zeus, you’ve now met all of our 2026 crias!

So… who would you like to meet next?

Should we continue with their mums and dads and work our way through all the alpacas at Mayfield before moving on to the rest of our animals?

Or would you like us to mix things up a little, introduce you to some of our other animals next, and come back to the alpaca family afterwards?

You choose! Let us know in the comments what you’d like to see next, we’re waiting for your answers!

Meet Santi & Pedro

31st May was a very special day at Mayfield – we welcomed not one, but two beautiful cria into the family.

On a swelteringly hot afternoon, Kristal welcomed Santi, a gorgeous medium fawn little boy with lighter patches on his legs and underbelly. He was up on his feet and feeding from mum within minutes of being born, healthy and strong from the very beginning. His name means “Peace”, and he has grown into a curious, inquisitive and playful character.

But Santi wasn’t the only new arrival that day.

Francesca also welcomed Pedro, our gorgeous dark fawn boy. Pedro is playful, boisterous, inquisitive and just a little bit cheeky!

Born on the same day, the two boys have grown up side by side and become best friends. You’ll often spot Pedro and Santi running and playing together in the field, two little personalities who have been partners in mischief almost from the very beginning.

So when you visit Mayfield, see if you can spot our 31st May boys together – Santi & Pedro.

And if you manage to catch the two best friends together, don’t forget to tag us, we’d love to see your photos!
