We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Silver Plate has been shortlisted for the Craft Guild of Chefs ‘College Restaurant of the Year’ for the fourth consecutive year! 🥂
Being recognised at this level is a huge honour, and it’s a testament to the incredible hard work, professional attitude, and talent of our students, as well as the tireless dedication of our restaurant team.
We are proud to be shortlisted alongside some fantastic competition:

🏆 HONG KONG BOUND! 🏆
We are bursting with pride to announce that our Level 2 students—Destiny, Amos, and Luke—have officially been crowned the winners of Zest Quest Asia! 🌏✨
Competing against seven incredible teams our trio rose to the top through sheer talent and poise. Their reward? An unbelievable study trip to Hong Kong to further explore Asian cookery and flavours!
🌟 A High-Level Field
We also want to say a huge well done to all the competing teams. The standards this year were exceptionally high, and the talent on display was truly world-class. You should all be incredibly proud of what you achieved on that stage!
🔪 The Path to Victory
Our students put in countless hours of extra study and research, practiced their dishes twice a week and refined every dish and technique to get to where they have.
A massive shout-out to their mentor, Chef Andy Gabbitas, whose guidance and expertise helped steer them to this victory. Your commitment to these students has been truly inspiring.

Our Level 2 & 3 Hospitality students headed to yesterday for Industry Week!🎓
A massive shoutout to Chris, the Food & Beverage Manager, for giving us the ultimate “all-access” pass. We didn’t just look at the fancy Peak District inspired decor; we went deep into what actually makes a hotel tick.
📸 We toured the high-end conference suites, luxury rooms, and that stunning restaurant area. Students learnt how private dining and large-scale bookings are managed seamlessly. Chris also gave us a vital lesson on margins and costing—proving that hospitality is just as much about the numbers as it is about the service. 📈
It was a brilliant insight into the “business” side of the industry. Our students are walking away with a much clearer picture of where their careers can take them! 🚀

As part of Industry Week, our front of house L2 & L3 Hospitality students headed over to for a VIP tour of the ground. Operations Manager Matt gave us the inside scoop on match-day magic, from the bustling kitchens to the high-end function suites.
It wasn’t just about the football; it was about the incredible teamwork and planning that goes into every whistle!

It’s industry week for our hospitality students and yesterday we kicked it off with a visit to . Huge thanks to for hosting our Level 2 and 3 Front of House students. Our cohort was treated to an incredible session in their stunning speakeasy bar, diving deep into the science of mixology.
Paul absolutely wowed us with his technical knowledge—from balancing acids and sugars to the precision of liquid ratios and technique. His passion for pushing boundaries is exactly the kind of inspiration our students need as they prepare for their careers in hospitality.
Seeing the craft behind the bar firsthand is invaluable. Thank you, Paul, for sharing your expertise and passion!

Spice, heritage, and a whole lot of inspiration! 🥘✨

Last week, The Silver Plate Restaurant had the absolute honour of welcoming the legendary and into our kitchens for a truly unforgettable guest chef evening.

Our Level 3 students had a front-row seat to culinary excellence, mastering new techniques and bold flavours under the guidance of two industry icons. From the heat of the kitchen to the final plating, it was a masterclass in passion and spice.

Guests were captivated by Cyrus’s stories of his culinary journey, rich heritage, and the soul behind every spice.

A massive thank you to Pervin and Cyrus for giving up your valuable time to mentor the next generation of chefs and share your beautiful food with our customers. It was an evening we won’t soon forget! 🥂
