The Folly Museum and Coffee House, Settle

The Folly Museum and Coffee House, Settle The Folly is Settle’s only Grade I listed building. It is home to the Museum of North Craven Life. TripAdvisor Travellers Choice winner 2022.

The Folly, built in 1679, is home to the charity-run Museum of North Craven Life and our licensed Coffee House. On 10th May 2023 our Coffee House was named as The National Museum Cafe of Year at The Museum and Heritage Awards ceremony in London. All the proceeds from our coffee house go towards the maintenance of our stunning 17th century building. We serve a selection of artisan coffees and teas from Atkinsons of Lancaster and we are delighted to serve beers from North Riding Micro Brewery based in Snainton near Scarborough. We have a tasty selection of sandwiches and salads and delicious piping hot homemade soups. Meat is sourced from our local butchers Drake and Macefield and we serve artisan bread from Seasons bakery in Ingleton. Our cakes are mostly all homemade and our Folly Scallywags are to die for! Our afternoon teas are very popular and require 24 hours notice (booking is essential)

We are dog friendly and have disabled and buggy access via the side of the building (the main entrance does have four 17th century steps).

🏠 Ever wondered what’s behind the door of Dr Buck’s House?

Join us on Sunday 11 October.

We’re opening this fascinating Georgian townhouse in Settle for a series of guided tours.
Dr Buck’s House is currently a building in need of considerable care, but it has a fascinating past and an exciting future.

Owned by the North Craven Building Preservation Trust, plans are in development to restore it for community use, providing housing and creating a new museum exploring composer Edward Elgar’s connections with Craven.

Elgar spent many happy summers in the area as a guest of his friend Dr Buck and regularly visited the house.

Our guided tours will take you beyond the front room to explore more of the building, hear about its history and discover our plans for its future.

🎟️ Tours are FREE, but advance booking is required.
⏱️ Tours last approximately 40 minutes.

You can also drop into the front room between 11am and 3pm without booking to see our display about the project.

Find available dates and book your tour:
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tours-of-dr-bucks-house-tickets-2002739831749

Please note that access beyond the ground-floor front room involves stairs, and Dr Buck’s House has no toilet facilities.

Good luck to Jonathan who works front of house in our Coffee House. Jonathan is working hard learning his script for his upcoming performance as Steve in Summer Holiday. He has a wonderful voice, if you are lucky he might sing you a few lines. 🎵🎵🎵

Christmas at The Folly is going to be a little different this year... 🎄

With restoration work continuing, we won't have our Main Hall available for our Christmas events. But some of our festive favourites are still going ahead - and this year they're moving into the cosy surroundings of The Folly Coffee House.

With just 31 seats for each performance, they'll be wonderfully intimate evenings.

🎶 Thursday 10 December - Octameron Christmas Concert
A festive mix of Christmas music, from classical pieces to modern favourites, performed by wonderful local choir Octameron. The Coffee House will be decorated for Christmas, with warmed mince pies, mulled w**e and other drinks available before the performance.

👻 Saturday 19 December - Gravest Fears
Robert Lloyd Parry brings two chilling tales by M R James to life: The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral and An Episode of Cathedral History.

👻 Sunday 20 December - Dead Men's Eyes
A completely different evening of M R James, featuring A View from a Hill and The Treasure of Abbot Thomas.

If you've seen Robert Lloyd Parry perform at The Folly before, you'll know just how atmospheric these evenings can be. And if you haven't, the intimate surroundings of the Coffee House might be the perfect place to discover them.

Only 31 seats are available for each event, so early booking is strongly recommended.
