This is my seasonal message of appreciation and request for kindness towards our staff.
I think it’s worth starting by explaining that as a seasonal business we have managed to keep our doors open for a decade now not only because of our amazingly tasty ice creams but also because of a finely tuned system of staffing that has allowed us to survive through the quieter times. Staffing is our absolute biggest cost and we make sure that our team get paid fair wages that reflect their hard work. This does often mean our shop and hut are staffed by a single person who has to work very efficiently. I know it’s harder to understand it when it’s very busy, but it’s a reflection on the fact that we aren’t always equally busy. If you want to avoid peak queues, try to visit before 2pm. When weather is hot, between 2 and 5pm always tends to be our busiest time, which means some waiting, sometimes for longer.
I know our team and I know they always do their utmost to deliver kind and speedy service, but they are not robots. If you are hot, you can expect that they are probably hot, too. If you had to wait in a queue, it often means they have been serving for an even longer time. The overwhelming majority of visitors are lovely, kind and polite and for that I thank you! Some have even stood up for our staff if an unkind customer has given our staff an undeservedly hard time. I really appreciate that!
Every year during peak season there’s the odd person displaying borderline abusive behaviour towards our team and especially the younger staff. This should not and will not be tolerated. That said, we have not yet ever turned any customers away but I have given my team explicit authority to do so, if they experience rude or abusive behaviour. I sure hope we won’t have to get to that 🤞, so thank you and big love ❤️ to everyone who is always kind and understanding towards our team while waiting for their lifesaving ice cream 😊
