Here’s a short news story from the local TV news that highlights what the coastal hospitality industry is up against.
Similar effects are happening in Scarborough, where once we would be open until 10/10:30pm we now find ourselves closing 7:30/8pm.
Sadly there’s not the amount of money going around as there used to be and what money people do have they have to budget more effectively.
From a business standpoint it quite often is simply not feasible to physically “keep the lights on”.

Edit: obviously there are some evenings where we do stay open if it’s busy, nights such as when the Goldwings Parade is on for example ☺️

Good Morning Scarborough and Beyond !
Apologies for the lack of posts, I’ve been a bit busy working 8 days a week.
I’m pleased to say that the Summer Season has begun (finally) and it’s lovely to welcome so many people back to Sunny Scarborough and back to the shop.
I can report that we are finally onto New Crop Potatoes, I have never known us move onto new crop so late in the year, a consequence of the weather, we even skipped the Early New Crop this year after speaking to our supplier who wasn’t convinced they were of suitable quality.
Our Fresh Fish supplier, T. G. Woods of Scarborough, is still bringing us some rather excellent fresh haddock, so good in fact that we’re now getting our “small” fish from him also (hint: they’re not really that small !)
Of course the prices of our potatoes and fish has increased AGAIN (+50% in the case of potatoes) BUT we have held our prices for the summer season.
