Hidden Gem: Cayton Bay, North Yorkshire 🌊 🏄
Tucked between Scarborough and Filey, Cayton Bay is one of the Yorkshire coast’s best-kept secrets. It is a wild, spacious beach where dramatic cliffs, rolling waves and peaceful coastal views take centre stage.
Just three miles south of Scarborough, the bay feels far from the busy seafront. It’s a favourite with surfers because of its reliable waves and all-tide conditions. Calmer days are ideal for paddleboarding, fossil hunting and family beach adventures.
At the heart of the action is Scarborough Surf School, which has roots at Cayton Bay dating back to 1985. Open year-round, it offers surf lessons, paddleboarding, kids’ clubs and coasteering sessions led by qualified local instructors.
Prefer to stay on dry land? Follow the Cleveland Way for sweeping coastal views. Explore the Jurassic cliffs or watch for seals, seabirds and even puffins. Dogs are welcome all year, making it a brilliant stop for four-legged explorers.
