Here’s a look at what’s coming to the table tomorrow night…

A menu made for taking your time over, sharing a few plates and settling into the evening. Everything is looking very tempting, and we can’t wait to get it all out of the kitchen.

Fine wine, good food and live jazz from The George Mooney Trio. Sounds like a pretty lovely Friday night to us.

We met, we shared and we listened at last night’s event…

An evening of interesting stories, unexpected conversations and, most importantly, listening. People spoke to people they might otherwise never have crossed paths with, shared things they wanted to share, and had the rare chance to be properly heard without interruption.

There was plenty to ponder, a lot to laugh about, and many lovely moments in between. A really special evening at socialbar. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it what it was 🫶

A few seats left around the table 🌿

Next Tuesday, we’re celebrating one year of Saxmundham Wholefoods with a long-table feast at socialbar. Three courses of seasonal, organic vegan food, made for passing around and sharing, with a welcome autumn spritz to start.

Come with friends or come on your own. The whole idea is good food, conversation and a table full of people brought together for the evening.

Thanks to John Fisher at Saxmundham Wholefoods, tickets have been generously subsidised from £45 to £29. There are only a few seats left, so if you’d like one, book through our website.

This month we want to shine a spotlight on a local photography group who meet on a Friday morning in Saxmundham 📷

PhotoShed is led by photographer Richard Allenby-Pratt of thesuffolkproject, who sets the group a brief at the start of each session, challenging them to head out around Saxmundham and photograph a particular subject or theme.

These photos are from a session where the theme was simply brown. 🤎

It’s a really lovely group of people, with a huge range of photography experience, but everyone is there with the same enthusiasm for taking photos. There’s plenty of encouragement and support, and at the end of each session everyone chooses their favourite two or three photos to share with the group.

Richard then goes through them, offering feedback and getting everyone talking about the different ways they’ve approached the same brief.

A really nice example of people coming together locally, learning from each other and seeing Saxmundham a little differently.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and to our guest reader, poet and author Ian Patterson. A particularly nice full-circle moment too, as our Book Club have previously read one of Ian’s books.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been testing, tasting and tweaking some ideas for our new evening small plates. Here are a few things that came out of the kitchen along the way. FYI - they tasted amazing!

We’re making a little more of an evening of it at socialbar, with our small plates offering — a reason to stay for dinner. Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings.
