Playing at Sips tonight, to celebrate 30 Years…

Endtroducing..... is the debut studio album by American music producer DJ Shadow, released on September 16, 1996, by Mo’ Wax. It is an instrumental hip hop work composed almost entirely of samples from vinyl records. He produced Endtroducing over two years, using an Akai MPC60 MKII sampler and little other equipment. He edited and layered samples to create new tracks of varying moods and tempos.

To celebrate this landmark we will be playing the whole album, from start to finish, at 19:00, in Sips.

SUNDAY 23RD AUGUST — A DAY OF HERMANOS 🌵

Sips has always been a bar, technically.

But the b**r was never really the point.

The point was creating a little room in Salisbury where good things could be given the time and attention they deserve. A beautiful b**r. A record played from beginning to end. A conversation that accidentally lasts three hours. Strangers becoming less strange.

So on Sunday 23rd, we’re trying something very simple.

Hermanos Gutiérrez. All day.

Brothers Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez make music that feels suspended somewhere between their Ecuadorian roots, desert highways, old westerns and the cosmos. Two guitars, very few words, and an extraordinary amount of space.

There’s something about the way they play together that feels particularly appropriate for Sips.

One guitar speaks.
The other listens.
One wanders.
The other follows.

And somewhere in the space between them, something emerges that neither could quite make alone.

Perhaps good bars work in much the same way.

We fill so much of our lives with noise. Music becomes something underneath something else. Drinks disappear while we’re thinking about the next one. Conversations become waiting for our turn to speak.

This is an invitation to do the opposite.

Come down. Bring some food. Bring a book. Bring somebody you love, somebody you’ve just met, or nobody at all.

Order something delicious. Find a corner. Listen.

We’ll travel through the Hermanos Gutiérrez catalogue throughout the day.

No timetable. No performance. Nothing particularly complicated.

Just a room, some records, some drinks, some people, and a little collective intention to actually be there for all of it.

🥃 Arrogant Bastard - treasured as much for the wonderfully unapologetic names as the wh**ky itself.

🥃 Duvel 10 Year - beautifully aged and painfully easy to drink.

Both available to take home.

The tap board has quietly become one of our favourites in a while too.

Belgian classics sitting alongside fresh pales, fruit sours, pastry stouts, lambics and a few wonderfully strange things.

If Dad would rather unwrap a pint than a present… we’ve got that covered too.

And with the weather looking rather glorious, we’ve dragged plenty of extra seating outside.

A gentle collision of faded memories, analogue ghosts, woodland transmissions and impossible nostalgia. Music that feels unearthed rather than composed. Like finding an old photograph of a childhood you don’t remember having.

INFERNO - The first new release in thirteen years.
To put that into perspective: when their last record arrived, Instagram was mostly photos of breakfast, TikTok didn’t exist, and half the artists currently citing Boards of Canada as an influence were still in school.

Some albums are releases.

This feels more like the reappearance of a long-lost object.
