SUNDAY 23RD AUGUST — A DAY OF HERMANOS 🌵
Sips has always been a bar, technically.
But the beer was never really the point.
The point was creating a little room in Salisbury where good things could be given the time and attention they deserve. A beautiful beer. A record played from beginning to end. A conversation that accidentally lasts three hours. Strangers becoming less strange.
So on Sunday 23rd, we’re trying something very simple.
Hermanos Gutiérrez. All day.
Brothers Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez make music that feels suspended somewhere between their Ecuadorian roots, desert highways, old westerns and the cosmos. Two guitars, very few words, and an extraordinary amount of space.
There’s something about the way they play together that feels particularly appropriate for Sips.
One guitar speaks.
The other listens.
One wanders.
The other follows.
And somewhere in the space between them, something emerges that neither could quite make alone.
Perhaps good bars work in much the same way.
We fill so much of our lives with noise. Music becomes something underneath something else. Drinks disappear while we’re thinking about the next one. Conversations become waiting for our turn to speak.
This is an invitation to do the opposite.
Come down. Bring some food. Bring a book. Bring somebody you love, somebody you’ve just met, or nobody at all.
Order something delicious. Find a corner. Listen.
We’ll travel through the Hermanos Gutiérrez catalogue throughout the day.
No timetable. No performance. Nothing particularly complicated.
Just a room, some records, some drinks, some people, and a little collective intention to actually be there for all of it.
